The Monterey Institute of
International Studies awarded a
Master of Arts in Translation
and Interpretation to Ken Curtis,
formerly of Heppner, at spring
commencement ceremonies on
May 16, in Monterey, CA.
Curtis completed his bachelor's
degree in anthropology at
Oregon State University. He
also completed a master of arts
degree in East Asian studies
from
Stanford
University.
While at the Institute, he
completed a thesis project
translating excerpts from the
book Nihon no Zais (The
Japanese Tax System).
While at the institute, Curtis
was a linguistic intern at Omega
International, a translation and
localization firm. He hopes to
work as an editor and translator
for a research institution in East
Asia.
Curtis is the son of Rick and
Liz Curtis, formerly of Heppner.

A public hearing on a proposed
second supplemental budget for
the City of Heppner, Morrow
County, State of Oregon, for the
fiscal year July 1, 1998 to June
30, 1999, will be held at
Heppner City Hall, 188 NW
Willow Street, Heppner, Oregon.
The hearing will take place on
the 14th day of June, 1999 at
7:00 PM. The purpose of the
hearing is to discuss the budget

Commission Meeting. The
purpose of the work session and
joint City Council and Planning
Commission meeting is to
consider the draft Transportation
System Plan for the City of
Heppner. This is a public
meeting and the public is invited
