A 1-1/2 year negotiation process came to a conclusion when the Morrow County School Board and the Morrow County Education Association collaboratively discussed both party's concerns. The new contract provides an increase in salary and benefits for Morrow County teachers. Board chairman John Rietmann said, "The new contract will be great for kids in Morrow County as teachers should feel well treated by the new contract and the board's willingness to listen to their concerns." Details of this contract will become available after both parties have ratified the contract. Health district in contract negotiations Morrow County Health Dahlman also said that she and District Administrator Sheila the board are also in the process Dahlman has announced that the district is in the process of of interviewing doctors to work working out a contract with for the district. She said by the end of June, the district will have physician Ken Wenberg. Dahlman said that Wenberg interviewed six physicians. New manager on the job at Les Schwab T i Glen Bridgmon New manager at the Les Schwab store in Heppner, Glen Bridgmon, says that he and his family are glad to be back in Eastern Oregon. "It's always been our goal to get back to this part of the state," said Bridgmon, who, along with his wife, Tami, grew up in Lakeview. Bridgmon, 42, has been with Les Schwab for 11 years, the last six years at Hood River. For two years prior to that he worked at the John Day store. Tami is employed in computer bookkeeping and computer graphics. The couple have a 17-year-old son, Chris, who will be a senior at Heppner High School this fall. Chris plays high school football and baseball. Glen likes hunting, fishing and golf and Tami enjoys camping. Glen says the family is looking for a home in Heppner, hopefully with a little land. WCC plans family barbecue The Willow Creek Country Club will have a family barbecue on Monday, May 31 at 4 p.m. Each family is asked to bring their own meat to the barbecue. Those whose last names begin with “L” through “Z” are asked to bring a salad and “A" through “K’\ dessert. Hosts will be John and Pat Edmundson, Bob and Suzanne Jepsen, Jim and Cam Wishart and Louis and Alene Rucker. Morrow County, Heppner, Oregon Spray Rodeo this weekend The 52nd Annual Spray Rodeo will be held May 29-30. The weekend starts at 8 a.m. Saturday when the 24th Eastern Oregon Half-Marathon begins at Service Creek and ends in downtown Spray with all the runners back in time for the parade which begins at 11 a.m. The Buckeroo breakfast will be held at the Spray School cafeteria early Saturday and Sunday morning until 11 a.m.. and will be run by the Wheeler County Fair Board. Presiding over the parade will be Queen Kira Glithero from Redmond and Tom Campbell, grand marshal from Kimberly. At 1 p.m. the rodeo begins with rodeo stock furnished by B Bar D rodeos. The rodeo is approved by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association, the Idaho Cowboys Association and the Washington Professional Rodeo Association and will be announced by Scott Allen from Klamath Falls. Rodeo bull fighter will be Bill Hamiltoi from Caldwell, Idaho. Saturday evening the rodeo dance will be held at the school gym beginning at 9 p.m. with music by Thunder Road from Salem. Sunday morning a cowboy church service will be held at 9 a.m. in the grandstand and the final performance of the rodeo begins at 1 p.m. For more information call (541)468-2442 Gun Club plans public shoot The Morrow County Gun Club (MCGC) held their monthly shoot on Sunday, May 23, in Lexington. “The beautiful weather brought the shooters out for a great day of fun, food and shooting,” said member Sandi Day. The winners of the 16 yard event were: first Mark Schlichting, 22 of 25; and a tie for second between Jeff Cutsforth and Roger Mortimore, 20 of 25. Twenty yard handicap winners were, first Jeff Cutsforth, second Mark Schlichting, and a tie for third between Curt Day and Troy Walker. Jack and Jill shoot was held with the following winners: first Curt Day and Lorn (Day) Branstetter; second Mark Schlichting and Sandi Day; third Shane Laughlin and Deona Hodges; fourth Troy Walker and Tina Walker. Troy Walker won two Annie Oakleys and Mark Schlichting won one. MCGC invites the public to join them on Sunday, June 13 to shoot at the shooting range at TKO in Ruggs. Heppner High School senior Jared Eckman captured the first place title in the state 2A high jump competition for the second year in a row. Eckman soared to 6'6" to end his high school high jumping career as a three-peat district and state champion. Eckman started high jumping in the seventh grade where he competed in the junior high track , program He started off by , winning the seventh grade championship title with a jump of 4'10". He repeated as champion his eighth-grade year and also captured a new junior high jump record. The record was formerly held by Len Brittner. Eckman sat out his freshman year of track and came back to • win his sophomore year at district and took second at state, jumping 6'2", followed by state titles at 6'3" his junior year and 6'6" this year. Eckman also competed as a member of the 4x100 relay, 100 meter and tripe jump. The Heppner High School 1600 meter relay team also went home with the state title. The team, consisting of Trisha Adams, Abby Kahl, Brooke Boyer and Amber Peck, took first with a time of 4.11.02, a new school record. The same team ended up fifth in state competition last year. Senior Amber Peck came home from state competition with two third place trophies-in the 100 meter dash a t : 13.16, and the 300 meter hurdles with .47.3. Eckman clears the pole Junior Casey Ingraham was fifth in the triple jump, with a jump of 34'9", a new school record. She was seventh last year in the same event. Junior Abby Kahl ended up sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.25. The team of Peck, Boyer. Ingraham and Adams was seventh in the 400 meter relay. They ran 52.61 in the preliminaries, the second fastest time ever at Heppner High School. The HHS girls’ team took home the third place state trophy. Coaches are Dale Conklin and Steve Brownfield. Jared Eckman McEHigott wins three events at state; leads lone girls to fourth Nikki McEHigott, lone High School junior, w as high point girl at the 1A state track meet held May 21-22 at Monmouth, setting two state records and tying another and leading the lone girls’ team to a tie for fourth place overall. McEHigott took first in three events, the high jump. 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles and was second in the triple jump, missing first place by only 3 4 of an inch. McEHigott tied the state record in the high jump at 5’3": set a new state record in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.53; and set a new- state record in the 300 meter hurdles with a 45.64. breaking her last year’s first place state finish by almost three seconds.
