Episcopal, Lutheran Churches plan Holy Week services Holy week worship for the i , shared ministry of all Saints' Episcopal Church, Hope Lutheran Church and Valby Lutheran Church has been scheduled as follows: Maundy Thursday, April 1- I combined service at All Saints' Episcopal with a 6 p.m. soup and sandwich supper and a 7 p.m. worship. A Lord's Supper tableau will be part of the worship service. WOU shut out Willamette, 6-0. Obituaries Arnie George Hedman Amie George Hedman, 77 of Heppner, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at St. Charles Medical Cen ter in Bend. M emorial service was held Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the United Methodist Church in Hepp ner. Mr. Hedman was bom Febru ary 23,1922, at Republic, Michi gan, to William and Aina Pertunen Hedman. He was raised at Re public and attended schools there, graduating from Republic High School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946, then at tended Northern Michigan Col lege of Education, graduating in 1950. On March 24, 1951, he mar ried Rita Belmore at Marquette, Michigan. Mr. Hedman taught music edu cation for five years at Painesdale, Michigan; then moved to Oregon, teaching at Athena for two years, lone for seven years and Hepp ner for three years. The Hedmans owned and op erated C ase F u rn itu re and Floorcovering in Heppner from 1963 until 1988. Sherer, 87, of lone, died Sunday, March 21,1999, at Good Shepherd Community Hos pital in Hermiston. G raveside service for Mrs. Sherer will be 11:30 a.m. Thurs day, March 25, 1999 at the Lex ington Cemetery. She was bom April 12,1911 at Sweden, Missouri, to Noah and E lla Jackson P ettyjohn. She m oved to a farm on B ig Buttercreek in Oregon with her family in 1915. When she was seven years old, the family moved to Morgan where she attended a two-room country school house through eighth grade. She later attended and graduated from lone High School. During her high school years, she worked at the Morgan Store during the sum mers. On September 14, 1934, she married Harold C. “Doc” Sherer at Y akim a, W ashington. The couple worked on a dairy farm near Lexington for a short time, then moved to Heppner. In 1945, they purchased a small ranch be low lone on Willow Creek. Mrs. Sherer was a member o f Willows Grange and the United Church o f Christ in lone. She enjoyed crafts and helped in community affairs. She loved working in her yard and garden and helping with the farm chores, but mostly, she enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Survivors include son, Dick of lone; daughters, Kay Barnhart of Redmond, and Judy Ripka of lone; brother, Roy Pettyjohn o f Port land; sister, Geneva Palmer of lone; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Doc” in 1997; a daughter, Diane; and brothers, Lee Pettyjohn and Paul Pettyjohn. Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Home Health, P.O. The site to be included is described as tax lot 203 o f Assessor's Map 5N 26 26, located east o f West Eighth Road and south o f Idaho Lane, approximately three miles west o f the City o f Irrigon in an Exclusive Farm Use (EFU) Zone. The property is owned by Max Hellberg. Criteria for approval include Zoning Ordinance Section 6.050(9), ARTICLE 8 and ORS 215.298(2).
