The loss dropped the Mustangs record to 12-4 on the year. The M ustangs spotted the Tigerscots to a 14-7 lead after one, but came back to trail only 21 -20 at halftime. The Tigerscots in creased their lead to nine after three and held off a Mustang rally in the fourth that came up short. Lindsey Ward led the Mus tangs with 11 points. San Juanita Elguezabal and Marissa McCabe each scored seven points. Trisha Adams, Krista Adams and Ashley Ropp each chipped in with five points. Three workshops were scheduled for photo by Joyco Hugh«« Happner's Jill Barber goes up for shot against TigerScots By Rick Paullus A long cold spell and too many turnovers spelled doom for the Heppner Mustang girls’ varsity basketball team against the Weston-McEwen Tigerscots on Friday, Feb. 19, in Athena. Casey Ingraham scored the Mustangs’first five points, and Jill Barber, the last three as they led 8-6 after the first period. A Jaci Hughes three-pointer increased the Mustangs’ lead to 17-11 in the second quarter, but the Tigerscots used four three-pointers of their .. own to take a 22-20 lead. Hughes hit a free throw and another three- pointer to give the Mustangs a 24- 22 lead at halftime. A Hughes three-pointer and two free throws, and an Ingraham basket gave the Mustangs their biggest lead of the game at 31 -24 early in the third quarter. The Tigerscots then went on a 20-1 run the rest of the third and part of the fourth before Brooke Boyer hit a free throw and basket to cut the lead to 44-35. The Tigerscots made five of seven free throws down the stretch to take a 58-39 win. Ingraham led the Mustangs with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Hughes hit three three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Bar ber had six points and four steals. Kathleen Greenup also had four steals. Mustang girls romp over Tigers 53-31 By Rick Paullus The visiting Heppner Mustang girls’ basketball team romped over the Stanfield Tigers, 53-31, on Saturday, Feb. 20. The win gave the Mustangs a 7-5 record in the Columbia Basin Conference and a share of sec ond place with Wahtonka, West on-McEwen and Pilot Rock. The results of the tie-breakers leave Wahtonka in second place, Hepp ner in third and Pilot Rock and Weston-McEwen having a play off game to determine fourth place on Monday night, Feb. 22. Sherman County is in first place. Casey Ingraham scored nine points and Jaci Hughes hit two three-pointers in the first quarter as the Mustangs built a 17-10 lead. Hughes hit two more three-point ers in the second as the Mustangs increased their lead to 31-18 at halftime over the Tigers. After a low scoring third quar ter, the Mustangs put the game away in the fourth to win easily, 53-31. Hughes hit five three-pointers for the game and finished with 19 points, six assists and two steals. Ingraham had 15 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Maben had six rebounds and two blocked shots. The Mustangs hit 17 of 24 free throws for the game. Plastic and duct tape will be around the windows and doors, a tv monitor will show the shelter in place videotape and supplies that are recommended for the shelter kit will be on display. Representatives from Morrow County CSEPP will be available to provide information and answer questions. Ellise Madson Michael-A daughter, Ellise Madson, was bom to Jay and Kristin Michael, Beaverton, on February 18, 1999, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland. The baby weighed 6 lbs, 7 oz. and measured 19 inches long. She joins a sister, Tessa at home. Grandparents are Dan and Midge Michael, Heppner, and Lanny and Cheryl O'Brien, Portland. All new participants need to bring a copy of their birth certificate. Little League age is the age a player is by August 1, 1999. The charge this year is $25 per child with a maximum of $50 per family. Payment is required at the time of sign-ups with no exceptions, say Little League representatives.
