Amanda R Richardson, 17, ot the Crater FFA_ Chapter, at Crater High School in Central Point, is one of four national finalists who competed for the title of national winner in the Home and/or Community Development Entrepreneurship/Placem ent proficiency award program at the 71st National FFA Convention Nov. 12-14 in Kansas City, Mo. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gained hands-on career experience. Home and/or Community Development - Entrepreneurship/Placement is one of 42 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state and national levels. The Home and/or Community Development Entrepreneurship/Placem ent proficiency award program is sponsored by Carbartt, Inc. as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. Amanda's participation in community service began at an early age with food and clothing drives. In the past, she has also helped out with flood relief, brought food to the elderly and worked with the Special Olympics. For the last two years, Amanda's main focus has been on the development of a community garden at the Jackson County Expo. She has achieved funding for the project and completed soil testing and site preparation. She continues to work with others on creating and producing a "beautiful community garden that can be enjoyed by everyone," said a press release.
