The Heppner Coordinating Council feels it is important to our local economy to educate our young people at a facility that is close to home and affordable to students. I have known Terry since 1992 and have always been impressed with his intelligence, his honesty and his work ethic. Terry is a careful listener that has the ability to think through issues in a rational manner and consistently follows up with individuals seeking information. Furthermore, Terry has always been interested in the youth and the issues that they are faced with. Terry is fair and consistent and I believe he will help make good choices for Morrow County. I encourage you to vote for Terry Tallman as county judge. (s)Molly Rhea Heppner Mollahan, honest sincere, non-politician To the Editor: As a Republican, it has been my pleasure to work for a democrat, John Mollahan, a candidate for Morrow County Judge. John is an honest, sincere, non-polincian whose desire is to serve Morrow County residents. John doesn't brag on his abilities, doesn't tell the citizens what is best for them, and makes no unrealistic promises- a refreshing relief m today’s political scene. John believes in governing on people's consensus. John Mollahan is a well respected former Morrow County Sheriff who has experience, common sense and dedication to lead Morrow County in the next century. Republicans, democrats, and independents jom me in voting for Morrow County's next judge John Mollahan. (s) Marcia Kemp Lexington, OR Support our youth vote yes ree. district To the Editor: I'm writing this letter or behalf of the Heppner Coordinating Council. We feel that it very important the citizens of all Morrow County support the Morrow County Unified Recreation District This district was set up by the voters of Morrow County to help support the level of education we wanted for our children. After the Metro area took away our right to decide how much we wanted to spend on the education of Morrow County students, we continue to have some local control of that level with the passage of this important district Without the recreation district w.c would again be faced with the question of ’Do we fund the saroeftevel of teachers and classes, or do we fund sports and extracurricular activities which help get our youth off the streets and learning important life lessons through school activities?“ We m Morrow County continue to have some say m our school funding by voting yes in support of the Unified Rec. Dist. The Heppner Coordinating Council urges you to support our youth and keep some local control of our school-funding Vote yes at the polls. (s) Rollie Marshall Chairman, HCC Heppner Sizemore sets the record straight To the Editor: Many voters have told me that they were really taken back by reports last Apnl in The Oregonian claiming that I owned S800.000 from a failed toy business. When 1 have told them my side of the story, they have been amazed that they had been so misled by The Oregonian. First. I don't owe anyone any money resulting from the toy business. Second, the business never went bankrupt. The Oregonian story was a political hit piece from a big city, liberal newspaper that abhors my conservative views on taxes and my opposition to state control of land use policy. Not only was none of the money loaned to me. but the total amount invested in the corporation was about S300.000. not the $800,000 The Oregonian claimed. They added the extra $500.000 as "profit“ the investors “should* have made The Oregonian reporter either doesn't know the fundamental difference between a personal loan and an investment in a corporation, or had no journalistic ethics. Finally, the toy company didn’t fail. After nine years we simply ceased operations because we were not making enough money to justify continuing the effort. The company was about $200.000 m the black when we closed it down. One investor, who invested 72 percent of the money, has stated publicly that I did an excellent job managing the company, that I was a man of character and integrity, and that he would not hesitate to invest with me again in another venture. That's quite a different picture than The Oregonian tried to paint. Sincerely, (s) Bill Sizemore Republican candidate for governor HALLOWEEN PARTY I S n a ck s a n d m u sic fro m 9 p .m .-12 a .m .-P u ll H it A udio P rizes aw ard ed for B e st C ostu m es BINGO IS BACK/ Wednesday* a i 7JO p.m. HEPPNER ELKS 358 0 CW-9II1 't W t M i M M * 142! been working very hard with local businessmen in both counties to put together a program that will help turn out young people who can be hired immediately after graduation from BMCC and (are) ready for the work force. The bond issue put before the voters of Morrow County will allow BMCC the upgrades it needs to help train our future business leaders. Please vote yes in support of our youth and BMCC. (s) Rollie Marshall Chairman, HCC Heppner Rea for commissioner To the Editor: Tallman fair and consistent Brosnan the man for the job Vote to upgrade BMCC LeAnn Rea was bom and raised in Morrow County. She knows the issues and concerns o f this county. LeAnn is experienced in budgeting and public entities. She supports our farmers and our timber workers and will work to keep our main industries flourishing, while promoting new businesses and industries to join our community. She is intelligent, straightforward and, most of all, honest and trustworthy. I share in her belief that we can always find an answer to our problems if we all work together. LeAnn really cares about our community and is willing to listen to all of our cares and concerns. She has my vote. (s) Jim Wishart Heppner A vote for Brosnan is a vote for future To the Editor: I am writing to ask you to vote for Dan Brosnan for county commissioner. Dan is running for the posmon being vacated by Raymond French who has served this county admirably and for a number of years. Dan and his wife Dons, originally Morrow County residents, decided a few years ago to "retire" in Heppner. However, since returning to Heppner, they have jumped right in from the start and made an investment m their future as well as ours by becoming involved in the community. They decided to make this their home and, unlike some of us that sit back and say "we need this" or "that should be done", they get m and do it. They have been an inspiration to us who have lived here for years and given us the "jump-start" we needed to get involved again in our community. Dan has made a commitment to this county by running for an office where he can do us a service by utilizing his past and current experiences to that end, and I also believe that he can do this. He has been attending commission meetings both in Heppner and in the north end of the county for the last several months to gam an understanding as to what he may be involved in the future. This alone, shows me that he is interested in doing the job of commissioner.. If you see Dan on the street, stop him if you have any questions at all. He is more than interested to visit with you, answ er your questions and listen to your concerns. If Dan doesn't have an answer, he will, in all likelihood, find out the answer. A vote for Brosnan is a vote for our future. Get out and vote. (s) Diana Ball Heppner 58 disregards promises of privacy To the Editor: .\s an adoption professional working in this area. I want to encourage local voters to vote "no" on Ballot Measure 5 8 .1 am concerned that this measure allows adoptees to disregard the promises of privacy that were made to birth parents m past decades There is nothing in this measure allowing birth parents to let the adoptee know that they prefer not to be contacted. There is also no system for birth parents to find out about the children for whom they planned adoption. In order to balance the needs of adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive families, we must make sure that all parties have a choice about their relationships with one another. They must keep their ability to decide what level of relationship is right for them. No one individual should be able to override the rights of another without that person's consent. The fact is that birth certificates contain the information of more than just the adoptee, and all of those people’s nghts and concerns must be considered. I hope that you will vote "no" on this insufficient measure until a more fair proposal is developed. (s)Chnstine Meade. MSW, birth parent and adoptive family counselor The Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon Portland To the Editor: We urge you to cast your vote for Dan Brosnan for Morrow County Commissioner. Dan has the experience that Morrow County needs. His years of work with the Oregon State Police, dealing with the legislature on various issues, will be invaluable. Dan has expressed a need to decrease domestic violence within our community. With his experience as a state policeman, he is the man for the job. For an informed, ethical, fair commissioner, vote for Dan Brosnan. (s) Robert and Sharon Harrison Heppner Support BMCC bond To the Editor: The continuing success of small businesses in northeast Oregon is dependent to a major extent on the viability of our community college system. Industry demands now and in the future require that our local educational systems be current and accessible so that the training needs of employers and the workforce can be met. In this context Blue Mountain Community College and the Small Business Center are integral parts of the local economy. On November 3, 1998, we have an opportunity to support our college in upgrading and expanding facilities in Milton- Freewater and in improving access through technology. I encourage you to vote with me in favor of BMCC bond #30-34. (s) Dan Tomczek President, Woodwnght Manufacturing Chamber urges rec. district yes vote To the Editor: The Heppner Chamber of Commerce encourages Morrow County citizens to vote yes to the Morrow County Unified Recreation District continuation of providing community recreation programs. During the past three years the public has benefitted directly through the activities funded in whole or part by the district and through joint efforts of the Morrow County Arts Council. Students have been able to have co-cumcular activities and citizens have all had the opportunity to enjoy cultural events within the county. We have seen many talented youngsters emerge and a greater appreciation for the arts. One of the questions asked by families wishing to relocate in Heppner is often in relation to music, art and theater. Due to the rec. district, Morrow County has more to offer people interested in these aspects of life. Remember, this in not a tax increase. It is a vote of faith in the past three years and what the future will hold... preservation and enhancement of recreational and cultural activities. (s) Claudia Hughes Exec. Director Heppner Chamber of Commerce Rea a great asset to county To the Editor: I am happy to recommend to your readers that they cast their vote for LeAnn Rea for the position of Morrow County Commissioner. We've known LeAnn for 40 years more or less since she baby sat for us when she was in high school. She had good character and good work ethics then and I'm pretty sure that she hasn't changed. Though LeAnn is a Democrat, she is one of those old fashioned conservative Democrats that believe in property rights and local government responsibility and has enough guts to stand up for her beliefs. LeAnn Rea grew- up in south Morrow County and has been a resident of the Boardman area for the last 15 years, so has a grasp of the problems of both the north and south ends. Probably most valuable is her experience as secretary and manager of the West Extension Irrigation District. She is completely aware of the hazards of federal control as proposed in the Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Plan and the economic disaster awaiting our county if the salmon saviors breach the dams. She has the ability to become a great asset to Morrow County.
