The Oregon East Symphony and Chorale will perform the "People's Choice" concert at the Doubletree Concert Bowl at 7:30 p.m., Sunday June 21. The program for this free Father's Day concert will include excerpts from Broadway musicals, marches, movie themes, waltzes and overtures performed by the orchestra and chorale. Throughout the 1997-98 concert season, audience members have been given the opportunity to vote for their favorite "Pops" or light classics, and the program for the concert reflects their choices. Bank of EO awards scholarships St. Patrick's Senior Center Bulletin Board There were 84 present for the senior dinner June 3 and 18 meals were home delivered. Members of the Hope and Valby Lutheran churches served. Hearing aid assistance was given and blood pressures taken before the meal. The Nutrition Site Committee met following the meal. Bingo was played at 1 p.m. The menu for June 17 will be Salisbury steak, Mexican potatoes, com, tossed salad, rolls and apple crisp. Members of the United Methodist Church will serve. The menu for the breakfast Friday, June 12, is French toast, sausage, hot and cold cereal, fruit, orange juice, milk, coffee and tea. The bus to Milton-Freewater will leave after breakfast (9 a.m.). Seniors will have lunch at the Senior Center and attend the AAA meeting. There are a few seats still available on the bus. Sign up at the senior office or call 676-9030 to have your name put on the list. The next bus tnp will be to the Spray Nutrition Site June 25 at 1.0:30 a.m. Two tables of pinochle were played Tuesday and Friday afternoons. The Red Cross will have a blood drawing at the Senior Center Thursday, June 25 Chorale, a regional organization with musicians from Heppner, Enterprise, LaGrande, Milton- Freewater, Walla Walla, Athena, Hermiston, Stanfield, Long Creek and Pendleton. The master o f ceremonies for the evening is State Senator David Nelson. The sound system for the concert will be provided by Dan Bums 3D Productions. Families are encouraged to bring their picnic suppers, lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy an evening of music. The management of the Doubletree requests that alcoholic beverages not be brought with you, but they may be purchased on the premises. Parking is available in the Bi- Mart parking lot. Jeff Sallee is to become a golf course superintendent. Jason Jaeger was involved in 4- H, FFA and a variety of horsemanship and horse training clinics during high school. Jason is the son of Judy Jaeger of Condon. Jason intends to attend Blue Mountain Community College, transfer to California Polytechnic University and graduate with a degree in agriculture. His career plans are to build a horse training facility and breed, raise and train horses. Jeff Sallee participated in athletics during his high school years. He also volunteered for a variety of community service activities. Jeff is the son of John and Mary Sallee of Arlington. Jeff plans to enroll at Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande and transfer to Oregon State University to complete his degree. He plans to pursue a career in forestry because o f his interest in the outdoors and wildlife. Marc Orem, who attended lone High School, was active in athletics, student government and community service. Marc is the son of Joe and Anita Orem of lone. Marc plans to attend Walla Walla Community College to begin studies toward a major in agricultural science. Spencer Weimar Mathews-Schlichting Amy and Mitch Mathews announce the engagement of their mother, Geneva Ann Mathews, to Mark Schlichtmg, both of Heppner. Geneva is the daughter of Vivian Jones of Beaverton and the late Cecil Jones. She is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and has a BME from Pacific University and a MST in music from Portland State University. Currently she is a senior accounts receivable consultant for Transworld Systems, Inc., and president of Choice Internet Service of the Tri-Cities. Mark is the son of Richard and MaryLou Schlichtmg of La Grande. He graduated from Sierra High School in Tollgate, California, and has a BS in agri-business from EOSC. Currently he is the owner/operator of Markel Manufacturing, Inc., of Heppner. The wedding date has been set for September 26 at the United Methodist Church in Heppner. V. This year's winners were Spencer Weimer and Jason Jaeger from Condon, Jeff Sallee from Arlington and Marc Orem from lone. Students were asked to fill out a bnef application, describe their future plans and career plans, and write a short essay on major problems facing agriculture or the U.S. Economy in the 1990's. The student must be planning to enroll in agriculture or business. The judging was based on scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Spencer Weimer was very active in athletics and FFA during his high school years, along with FBLA. He is the son o f Mike and Holly Weimer of Condon. He plans to attend Linfield College in McMinnville and major in business administration.
