TEN - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 8,1997 M CHS holds annual meeting By Delpha Jones The Morrow County Historical Society (MCHS) met at the Lex- ington Grange Hall on Sept. 30 for their annual meeting. A pot- luck turkey dinner was held, fol- lowed by the business meeting and program. The meeting opened with the Pledge o f A llegiance led by C larence Buchanan, and the opening prayer, by Don Eppenbaugh. The minutes of the last year’s annual meeting were read. Reports were heard consid- enn8 the “Chronicles” published each year, which are available for ^ at vanous places. 11 was announced that there are several century farms in the county, but the owners have not applied for the recognition and plaque. Many in the group hope that these farms will be recog- nized. Information is available at the courthouse and from Jean Nelson, a member of the commit- tee. trip to Newport and other vanous other places where the group trav eled. The group attended a parade, saw Keiko and hear Barbara Mandrell sing at a casino. Don Eppenbaugh gave a report on the boat at the port which is on display and a report on the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, with plans and other work under way. The steel bndge has a new deck and the dates have been have been repainted by the Morrow County road crew. The nominating com mittee recom m ended that Barbara B loodsw orth and K atheryn Hoskins be reelected and the member from north Morrow County be appointed by the board of directors. Music for the afternoon was provided by Steve Ferebee of Ir- ngon, who entertained with west ern songs. Speaker for the afternoon was Fritz Cramer, who showed slides of Celilo Falls before the dams and gave the pointers on the new Discovery Center in The Dalles. He was accompanied from The Dalles with his wife, and former Morrow County resident Paul Tews.
