Wright presided over a meeting held at Haven House in Fossil May 16 to administer the estate o f his sister, Carolyn Elizabeth "Bess" Wright Johnson. Mrs. Johnson had left a $ 156,000 annuity. Wright presented a check for $100,000 o f the annuity to Wheeler High School for scholarships; $30,000 to Asher Clinic for their perpetual fund; and an additional $30 ,0 0 0 for Haven House to be used in paying off outstanding bills. Wright kicked in $ 4,000 o f his own money so that Haven House would have an amount equal to that o f Asher Clinic. He added that Fossil and Wheeler County have been very good to him over the years and by donating the proceeds o f his sister's annuity, he can express his appreciation. Wright said that no one had realized that his sister had an annuity. Wright will also present a check for $4 4 0 ,5 3 4 .2 0 , specified in Mrs. Johnson's will to go to D oem becher's Children's Hospital to be used directly for treatment o f children. Interest accrued from the school district donation will be used for "two or three" scholarships each year. A commission o f five people, including the school principal, will determine the recipient of the scholarships. Wright said that his sister and her husband lived a quiet, frugal life, "saved their money and didn’t take trips or anything". She lived at the family home in Fossil before marrying Mr.Johnson, who was a lumber market manager. Mr. Johnson died 10 years ago and Mrs. Johnson passed away a year ago. Herb Wright has lived all of his life in Fossil except for one year in Heppner. He opened a Richfield Station in Heppner in 1941. Unfortunately World War II broke out a year later and he wasn't able to get gasoline or tires and so returned to Fossil where he opened a car dealership He has owned Wnght Chevrolet in Fossil for 37 years. He has been a member o f the Columbia Basin Electric Co-op Board o f Directors for the last 22 years. Lrds Rebecca Ward Dawn Boor Kelly Morgan . ^ G rad ua tion
