The Burkenbines began the one percent program, in which they donate one percent of their receipts to various non-profit organizations, in 1992. People wishing to have funds donated to a particular group place their Central Market grocery receipts in a bag at the store, which has been earmarked for that group. I Heppner to be subject of tv program School board to vote on four-day week The Morrow County School The popular St. Patrick's Day treasure hunt is back again. Each week until March 12 a clue for the treasure hunt will be printed in the Gazette-Times. If followed, these clues will guide treasure hunters to a green shamrock hidden some where in the city limits of Heppner. The first person to find the hidden shamrock will win a .25 ounce silver American Eagle coin worth $90. The coin is donated by the Bank of Eastern Oregon and is on display there. 1. A new set of clues to guide you to the hidden, shamrock will appear in each edition of the Hepp ner Gazette-Times. 2. A total of four clues will be given up to March 12. 3. The hidden shamrock is not on private proper ty and no digging or moving of objects, dirt or other material is necessary to find the shamrock. 4. The first person to find the shamrock should bring it to the Heppner Gazette-Times office to claim the silver American Eagle. Easter choir singers needed Singers are needed for a choir that will perform at an Easter presentation by the South Morrow County Ministerial Association on Wednesday, March 26, at 7:30 pm at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Heppner Adults and high school students are welcome The choir will rehearse on the first three Tuesday s of March- March 4, 11. and 18. at 7:30 pm at St Patrick's Rehearsals will be no longer than one hour The music will be traditional Easter hymns Catherine Hoskins is the choir director, and the Rev Lea Mathieu is the overall director Mathieu may be called with questions at 422 7530. Ballot drop sites open Local "leprechauns" to attend tv show Heppner’s St. Patrick’s Cel ebration committee is working hard to make the weekend event the talk of Portland on Friday, Feb. 18. That is when a contingent of residents, accompanied by three or four “leprechauns” will be in •the audience of KATU’s “AM Northwest” morning show. Although not featured on the show, they expect to receive at tention from Jim Bosley. They will be difficult not to note- the group will be dressed in green, sitting with large-headed leprechauns, and waving Irish and Heppner flags. The group also hopes it will be hard to miss at Pioneer Square later in the day. They plan to cre- ate curiosity with the leprechauns, distribute weekend brochures and visit with passersby. KATU will also put together a “full-screen visual and voice- over” advertisement for the March event if Heppner’s group numbers 10 or more. So far, nine individuals have committed to the plan to travel to Portland on Thursday evening so they can be at the t.v. station by 8:30 a.m. Fri day morning. Another four people have voiced an interest.
