Mustang JV girls lose big
time to TigerScots
bv Molly Rhea_____________
The Heppner JV girls team had a
miserable time in Athena on
Friday, January 24, losing for the
second time to the Weston-
McEwcn Tiger-Scots, 56-17.
Nothing seemed to go right as the
young Mustangs struggled to get
past the Tiger-Scots' press and
were hardly able to get a shot off.
The quarter scoring was bleak
with the Mustangs trailing 2-15 at
the quarter and 8-29 at the half.
The second half Heppner
continued to appear lifeless and
was unable to effectively move the
ball or score The third quarter
score was 11-42 and the final tally
was a dismal 17-56.
Heppner hit only three of 12
freethrow attempts (25 percent),
while the Weston-McEwen squad
was seven for 10 from behind the
line The Mustangs were nicked
for a frightening 39 turnovers
Kathleen Greenup led the
Mustang scorers with five points,
two steals and an assist Trisha
Adams had four points and three
rebounds Macy Rhea had two
points and four boards
Julie
Watkins had two points along with
two rebounds Tracy Rankin hit a
bucket and grabbed a rebound.
Ashley Ropp got credit for one
freethrow, three steals and an
assist and Leah Denton hit one
freethrow while pulling down two

Until this game the JV fans have
seen steady improvement from
these girls This young Mustang
squad will need to put this
frustrating game behind them,
continue to work hard and have
fun

Mustang JV girls make
comeback, beat Tigers
bv Molly Rhea_____________
When the Stanfield Tigers
prowled into town on Saturday,
January 25, they were looking to
draw first blood on the Mustang
girls’ JV team by starting two
players that doubled as varsity
starters.
After being shell
shocked on Friday evening by a
hot shooting Weston-McEwen
team, the young Heppner squad
took all of the first quarter and
most of the second before even
scoring a point.
The score at the end of the first
eight minutes was 0-12 with the
Mustangs hanging their heads
The score was 0-18 before the
Mustangs finally canned a

Trisha Adams managed to supply
the spark that ignited Heppner's
fire Adams scored eight of her
game-high 11 points in the last
four minutes of the second quarter
She also scooped six boards and
four steals.
"Tnsh supplied the spark that we
needed." coach Dana Reid said
"Then she kept up the intensity to
help carry the team through to
clinch the win."
Although the Tigers were still
leading at the half, the Mustangs
displayed a different attitude as
they trotted into the locker room,
trailing 12-19.
