This meeting will feature talks on barrel rac ing by Connie Holmquist, en durance riding by Charlene Gentry, and possibly a talk from a breeder. Officers will also be elected. There will soon be a poster up at Green Feed and Seed, Heppner, on what is going on with this and other Morrow County 4-H horse clubs. Every one interested in horse 4-H ■ should check this poster for meeting times, special clinics, demonstration days, shows, etc. Mounted meetings will begin in February. M ark Miller elected to FSA spot B renda Burright looks for an opening against Sherm an County By K a ra M iller The lone Lady Cardinals kicked off the Wasco County Tournament in Maupin, Fri day, Dec. 20, with a victory over the Sherman County Huskies, 43-35. The game started off quickly, with Sherman answering each lone shot with two of their own. The score at the end of the first quarter was lone, six, Sherman County, 12. lone's quick-paced basketball soon overtook the Huskies, however, and the Cardinals passed Sherman on the board as well as the floor. The Sher man girls got into foul trouble and were forced to frequently substitute their starters out of the game. In the second quarter, the Cards seemed to lose a little bit of hustle and let the Huskies slip back within biting range. At the half, the score was 32-27, in favor of lone, but the crowd was beginning to think this was going to be even closer when they came out of the locker room. In the third and fourth quarters, lone out-rebounded and outscored their opponents, ending with the victory. Dawn Boor led lone with 12 points. Brenda Burright follow ed closely with 11, and added six steals for lone. Suzy Heide- man led the boards with 11, as the Lady Cards hustled for the win over Sherman to place themselves in contention for first place of the tournament. lone played Condon for the championship, Saturday, Dec. 21 . Cardinals beats Stanfield, 66-14 Mark Miller , Heppner, was elected to a one year term for the Morrow County Farm Service Agency (FSA) local administrative area (LAA), according to an FSA news release. Craig Miles was elected first alternate and Lori Seitz, second alternate. According to the release, the FSA committee members' duties include: informing farmers o f the purpose andprovisions of the FSA rograms; keeping the state SA committee informed of LA A condition s; recom m ending needed changes in farm programs; participating in county meetings as necessary and performing other duties as assigned by the state FSA committee An organizational meeting will be held at the Morrow County FSA office on Wednesday, January 8, at 9 a.m. at the Pettyjohn Building, Heppner-Lexington Highway, Heppner. p fAX Sena or Receive Gazette-Times 676-9228 Obituary M aurice Jayne Elder Maurice Jayne Elder, 87, of Heppner, died Friday, Decem ber 20, 1996, at Amber Valley Care Center in Pendleton. A family memorial service will be held. Mr. Elder was born Septem ber 12, 1909, at Heppner, to Frank and Jennie Jayne Elder. He attended school at Ritter. During World War II, he was stationed in the South Pacific for four years. He was in a tank destroyer battalion and a reci pient of the Purple Heart. On July 2, 1951, he married Vivian Cason Prock at Pendle ton. She died in January 1995. The Morrow County Sheriff's office reports dispatching the following business during the past week: Dec. 17: Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a neighbor's car backfiring with flames shooting up from the carburetor; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report of theft of a welder valued at $400. It was stolen from a service rig in Ir- rigon. The radio in the cab of the pickup was vandalized; Boardman Police Dept, was requested to assist with a female customer causing pro blems at the BP Station; Boardm an Police D ept, received a report of a non injury accident in Boardman; Oregon State Police received a report of a missing child in Ir- rigon. The child was later located at a friend's house; Heppner Police and Fire depts., and Columbia Basin Electric Cooperative received a report of someone hitting a power pole and the pole was leaning. CBEC shut off power to Chase Street while the pole was repaired; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Boardman ambulance for an ill two year old child; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to a juvenile pro blem in Irrigon; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Dec. 18: Morrow County Sheriff's office received a report that the Hermiston Police Dept, were in pursuit of a vehicle which turned onto Buttercreek Road and headed to Highway 74. A Morrow County deputy went up Sandhollow to Jones Hill to intercept vehicle, but the vehicle went up Alkali Canyon, headed back to Echo. The pur suit was cancelled by the Her miston Police Dept.; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of an alleged assault at Columbia Middle School in Irrigon. A citation was issued; Boardm an Police D ept, responded to a report from the Trail Apts, in Boardman that a person was allegedly removing items from an apt. that were not his; Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report of a trespasser at a residence in Boardman; Heppner Police Dept, receiv ed a report of an audible bur glar alarm at Les Schwab in H eppner. Everything was secure; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report of a run away teenager in Boardman; Boardm an Police D ept, received a report of a suspi cious vehicle at Willow Fork and Kinkade streets. Dec. 19: Morrow County deputy investigated a report of vandalism at E.O. Farming Co., Patterson Ferry; Morrow County deputy ar rested Jill Rene Christian, 28, on a warrant for negotiating a bad check; Morrow County deputy ar rested Penny Delclpierre on a Justice Court warrant out of Ir rigon for negotiating a bad check. Delclpierre was cited and released; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report from a wo man in Heppner who said a man had violated a restraining order against him. Dec. 20: Morrow County deputy investigated a report of a burglary attempt in lone; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of a run away teenager; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report from Col umbia Middle School in Irrigon concerning a trespasser; Boardm an Police D ept, received a request for an officer concerning a dispute over belongings; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice received a report of a pickup with overhead lights trespassing and high-centered in a ditch near Beecher's in lone. An officer was unable to locate; Heppner Police Dept, receiv ed a report of a car driving carelessly and then into a ditch on Main Street in Heppner; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of tools stolen from a garage at a resi dence in Irrigon. Dec. 22: Morrow County deputy investigated a report of dogs killing chickens in Irrigon; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report of dogs chasing cattle in Boardman; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of a man who had allegedly shot at children and a dog with a BB gun; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the lone Fire Dept, to the lone Market due to an alarm sounding. They were unable to locate any smoke. The owner also res ponded to the scene; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Boardman Fire Dept, and ambulance to a reported rollover on 1-84 milepost 151 westbound.
