30,
lone Cardinals thump Honkers, 5 0 - 8
The lone Cardinals jumped
on Arlington early for the first
37 points of the game, before
the Honkers could run a kickoff
back for their only score of the
50-8 contest last Friday at
Arlington,
Despite quite a lot of playing
time by the second string, the
Cards still managed to knock
down 600 yards of offense and
hold the Honkers to only 78
yards total offense.
Pete Cantu let the rushing at
tack with two touchdowns on
eight carries and 136 yards.
Freshman running back Allen
Gribskov had a tremendous
game as he had 80 yards
rushing and two interceptions
and 10 tackles on defense.
Mark Orem also had a strong
game with 14 tackles and a
39-yard touchdown catch.
Jacob Taylor had 10 tackles
along with four receptions and
one touchdown. Quarterback
Luke Swanson had over 200
yards passing on 9-11 and two
touchdown passes.
Freshman quarterback Mark
McElligott had over 100 yards
passing on 7 of 13 and one
touchdown. Senior ]oe Bacon
played a very tough guard
position and blew open several
huge holes along with the rest
of the line.
One of the highlights of the
game was a swing pass from
Swanson to center-turned-
fullback Kelly Morgan who
took it 85 yards in for the
touchdown.
The Cards final game of the
season will be at home against
Wasco Friday at 7:30. "It
should be a good gam e," said

Heppner Ponies beat lone Cardinals
By Lonnie Rill
After a tough loss to Colum
bia Junior High last week the
Heppner Ponies regained some
steam by beating the lone Car
dinals Monday night in a long
running rivalry.
The Ponies beat the Cards
48-14 by good defense and
tremendous offensive play by
eighth grader Matt Baker.
Ted Ferrioli
Baker carried the ball three
times for 148 yards and three
touchdowns.
Watching the Ponies play is
exciting because they play so
well together. They may be the
the best young team to come
around in a while.
The Ponies last opponent
was Stanfield at Stanfield
Tuesday.

...except where farmers
do their banking.
Bank o f Eastern Oregon has been serving the needs o f our agricultural
way o f life for over fifty years now —longer than any other hank in these
parts. Sure there were other banks around before we started, hut none
o f them are left in tact. And it seems like every time they change their
names they get farther away from their roots.
No other bank has a greater stake in the success o f our fanners and the
Eastern O regon businesses that support them than Bank o f Eastern
Oregon. No bank tries harder to make a difference for you.
For those who haven't ever hanked with us, or for those o f you who
have been away for a while, there couldn't be a better time to bring
your banking back home. Call us. Or if you can. stop in and say “Hello"!
