Con­ fidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible Published: October November 6, 13, 1996. 30, lone Cardinals thump Honkers, 5 0 - 8 The lone Cardinals jumped on Arlington early for the first 37 points of the game, before the Honkers could run a kickoff back for their only score of the 50-8 contest last Friday at Arlington, Despite quite a lot of playing time by the second string, the Cards still managed to knock down 600 yards of offense and hold the Honkers to only 78 yards total offense. Pete Cantu let the rushing at­ tack with two touchdowns on eight carries and 136 yards. Freshman running back Allen Gribskov had a tremendous game as he had 80 yards rushing and two interceptions and 10 tackles on defense. Mark Orem also had a strong game with 14 tackles and a 39-yard touchdown catch. Jacob Taylor had 10 tackles along with four receptions and one touchdown. Quarterback Luke Swanson had over 200 yards passing on 9-11 and two touchdown passes. Freshman quarterback Mark McElligott had over 100 yards passing on 7 of 13 and one touchdown. Senior ]oe Bacon played a very tough guard position and blew open several huge holes along with the rest of the line. One of the highlights of the game was a swing pass from Swanson to center-turned- fullback Kelly Morgan who took it 85 yards in for the touchdown. Ferrioli, who lives in John Day, is executive director of Malheur Timber Operators, Inc. in John Day. Previously, as general manager of Hauser Northwest, Inc., Ferrioli was involved with the harvesting of yew trees for the manufacture o f Taxol which was used in the treatment of certain cancers. In his campaign, Ferrioli calls for an eastside focus of econom ic development spending. The Ponies beat the Cards 48-14 by good defense and tremendous offensive play by eighth grader Matt Baker. Ted Ferrioli Baker carried the ball three times for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Watching the Ponies play is exciting because they play so well together. They may be the the best young team to come around in a while. The Ponies last opponent was Stanfield at Stanfield Tuesday.
