mittee. Premiums for adult and
youth categories will be award

"W e hope that residents that

McCabe, FCE Council trea

more exhibits next y ear."
Rodeo fans had better pre
pare to hang on to their seats
during the high excitement of
The Flying Cossacks.
The trick riders will perform
during the Oregon Trail Pro
Rodeo Aug. 16-17 at the Mor
row County Fairgrounds.
One educator, one fashion
consultant, one communication
specialist and one lawyer make
up The Flying Cossacks, who
perform Indian and Russian
battle maneuvers on four fast
running horses, in colorful
coordinated costumes.
Preserving a unique and dy
ing art form, the trick riding
"Flying Cossacks" were form
ed in 1973. The Flying Cos
sacks, aka the Ellerman family,
have performed throughout the
United States. In 1988 and
1989, they had a special invita
tion to appear at the Belmont
Stakes in New York. During
the 1991 National Finals Rodeo,
the family troupe performed in
the opening ceremonies. Part of
the group appeared in a special
show in Kuwait.
Tami, the special education
teacher executes a fender com
bination and is the only trick
rider today who currently per
forms the difficult backbend.
Fawn the communication ex
pert, performs the infamous
and popular Stroud layout and
compliments with the danger
ous taildrag.
Jozell, a recent graduate of
FIDM, does a graceful side-
shoulder stand, displaying
great strength and balance. She
combines with Fawn on the
final run to enact the rarely
seen hippodrome and taildrag
on one horse.
Troy, the lawyer, executes
rapid-fire groundwork along
with a shoulder stand and
somersault drag.
Delivered with speed, action,
showmanship and grace, The
Flying Cossacks add the unique
element of various themes and
musical arrangements to appeal
to the young and old alike.
Elements of danger, heart
stopping action, bodies that
execute feats beneath thunder
ing hooves-The Flying Cos
sacks will bring you this and
more!

Morrow County 4-H has 289
members and 71 leaders.
There are 122 youth signed
up for Home Ec/Expressive
Arts; the horse program has
held steady at 46; 26 are sign
ed up for Horticulture/Mecha-
nical Science/N atural R e
sources; and the largest group
is in livestock.
"W e can really see it at fair,"
said Bill Broderick, OSU Exten
sion agent, "because all the
bams are full or overflowing."
Many 4-H members are in
more than one club. Some have
more than one livestock or
home ec project. Others are in
projects that cross curriculum
areas such as livestock and
home ec, or horse and home ec.
"W e encourage this as mem
bers have been in 4-H a couple
of years," said Broderick.
Broderick added that it is also
important for members to get
involved in other activities,
such as clinics and field days,
pre-fair training, camp, camp
counselor training, the Speak
Easy (presentation training),
Tri-County Leadership Retreat,
4-H Summer Days or the OSU
A m bassador Program . As
members challenge themselves
in additional activities they
leam many of the life skills that
has made 4-H a complete youth
development program, said
Broderick.
