Despite the rainstorm that lasted the entire event, 28 peo ple weathered the storm and participated in the modified scramble event. Maryhill Museum of Art in vites residents of Morrow County to visit free during Ju ly. This is the fourth year the museum has offered this incen tive to its neighbors. "Summer is a great time to visit the museum and the Columbia Gorge," said Josie De Falla, director. "This is our way of adding to the fun and pleasure of traveling." Visitors in July will view the 50th anniversary of the interna tionally acclaimed "Theatre de la M ode." This "enchanted" exhibit of fifty-seven elaborate ly costumed one-third human size mannequins, in dramati cally lighted stage sets, features the "haute couture” of 1946 Paris. The collection has not been shown at Maryhill since 1988. "Light plays a big part in my selection of sub ject," Fridell says. "It's so gray here (in Seattle) most of the time that When thé sun comes out, it's àlways à spècial olccÜ- sion." Jensen, also from Seattle, uses a substractive method of carving wood to create contem porary exotic forms of linear in tensity. His exhibit will open July 18. On July 25, a lecture about World War II stolen art by Dr. Gorden Gilkey will be held at 7 p.m. An Oregon Ballet Theatre mini-performance at 8 p.m. will emphasize French forms of dance. A limited number of tickets are available at $12 for the evening lecture and performance. Advance reservation are recommended. Local students attend festival The Morrow County School District (MCSD) recently sent 21 students to the 12th annual State Writing Festival, a day long writing conference at Portland State University. Students all over Oregon from grades 1-12 were selected for their writing ability. Each par ticipant prepared a piece of writing to share with fellow students at the festival.
