Local players named to all-stars
Wranglers Riding Club end season

Junior Eric Schonbachler and
freshman Shane Matheny each
snagged a position on the Col
umbia Basin Conference base
ball honorable mention team.
Schonbachler got the nod for
his work on the mound and
Matheny was voted an utility
player.
Matheny had an outstanding
first year, amassing 17 RBIs and
a team-leading .333 batting
average. Matheny nailed two
home runs as well to go along
with his near-flawless defense.

Schonbachler was exquisite
on the hill, racking up 88
strikeouts in 63 innings of
work-an average of 1.4 Ks an
inning.

The Morrow County Theatre
group will offer a second script
reading for their fall production
at the Morrow Estates in Board-
man on Wednesday, June 19 at
7 p.m. Director Debbie Wryn
said a second reading is being
offered because "the script
reading of T m Sorry the Bridge
is Out, You'll have to Spend
the Night' generated tremen
dous interest."
A carpool for those interested
in attending will meet at the
Morrow County School District
office in Lexington at 6 p.m.

"Are Fathers Really Neces
sary?" is the theme of Pastor
Stan Hoobing's sermon at
Hope and Valby Lutheran
churches on Sunday, June 16.
"Today more than ever in our
society, the American father is
fast becoming an endangered
species," said Pastor Hoobing.
"Children, families and socie
ty in general are suffering
because of it."
Services of Holy Communion
will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at
Valby Lutheran Church, lone.
An adult Bible study on the
Gospel of St. Luke will precede
the worship service. The study
begins at 8:15 a.m. A special
congregational meeting will be
held at 7 p.m. All members are
encouraged to attend to discuss
plans for the future.
A service of Holy Commu
nion at Hope Lutheran Church,
Heppner, will be held at 11
a.m. A coffee hour will follow
the service.
