Lady Cardinals beat Fillies
Program set for All Saints'Church Valby Lutheran plans Advent services
All Saints' Episcopal Church
in Heppner will host a child­
ren's Christmas program dur­
ing worship at 10:30 a.m. this
Sunday, Dec. 17.
The children will tell the
Christmas story through words
and pictures with music for the
whole congregation.
Father A1 Miller will celebrate
Holy Communion at All Saints'
this third Sunday in Advent. A
time for fellowship and conver­
sation will follow worship.
Guests are welcome to at­
tend.
A special mid-week Advent
service will be observed at
Valby Lutheran Church, lone,
on Wednesday evening, Dec.
13, at 7 p.m. Pastor Stan Hoob-
ing will bring a message entitl­
ed, ” The Source of Light...and
Life” , based on the reading of
St. John 1:6-8, 19-28. Sarah
Carlson will play the piano.
After the service, a short meet­
ing of the church council will be
held and there will be an op­
portunity to decorate the
Christmas tree.
This Sunday, Dec. 17, at 9
a.m ., the Valby Lutheran
Church in lone will observe an
Advent communion service.
Pastor Stan Hoobing will bring
a message entitled, "Good
News in Action” based on
scripture reading of Matthew
11:2-11. Sarah Carlson will play
the piano.

The Lady Cardinals Varsity
basketball squad took the floor
against the Heppner Fillies
Tuesday, Dec. 5, and won a
hard-earned victory, 62-56.
The two teams are always up
for the challenge of competition
against each other, and this
was a good game to watch.
The game opened with lone

Cards beat the Rockets, 74-31.

and the Cardinals came on
strong. lone's defense kept the
home team to few scores and
the offensive moves from all
the Cardinal players kept in­
creasing lone's lead.

the U.S. Forest Service, will be
held this Thursday, Dec. 14,
from 2-6 p.m. at the St. Pat­
rick's Senior Center in Hepp­
ner.
A Red Cross spokesperson
said that there is a special call
for O-negative blood, although
all types are needed, especial­
ly through the holiday season.

dual statistics of rebounds,
steals and assists.
Coach Kelley Swarat com­
mented that ''the entire team
played good defense and work­
ed hard, which resulted in the
low score. It was a defensive
battle. We weren't executing
our man-to-man defense well
this early in the season. We are
working to improve that.”

team traveled to Heppner last
Tuesday, Dec. 5, to take on the
2A Heppner Fillies. The game
was close and competitive,
with Heppner edging out the
Cardinals by eight, 25-33.

point shot from Kara Miller.
lone got into foul trouble and
finished the game with 21 fouls
against their record, while
Heppner had 13.
