O n tap for Thursday, Oct. 5, is dress-up day, with Blue and G old Day for grades nine through 12 and Red and W hite Day for seventh and eighth graders. A tug o f war com peti tion is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. and an A/B volleyball match will be held at Wahtonka in The Dalles beginning at 5 p.m. *A host of activities will occur on homecoming day, Friday, Oct. 6. Halftime rehearsal will be at 1:30 p.m. Junior high volleyball and football games will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Pilot Rock. The homecoming vehicle decoration is planned for 3 p.m. - with the homecoming parade dow n Main Street at 4 p.m . Edmundson re ported that the management, Eorrie#and Gail Burkenbine, and employees at Central Red Apple Market were instrumen tal in making the seasonal volkswalk event successful. They provided a registration point and greeted the walkers. The Heppner Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors w ill review its sponsorship of the St. Patrick's Celebration an nual Volkswalk and will deter mine whether to continue the activities next year, said Edmundson. Booster club dinner, auction Oct. 14 The H eppner Booster Club steak feed and auction will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, at the H eppner Elks Club, beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner, featuring barbecued N e w York steak cooked by Lee Ansotequi and crew, baked potato, salad, homemade bread and dessert will be served from 6-8 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $7.50 each. The auction will get under w ay at 8 p.m. Auction items in clude Far W est Classic tickets; H eppner High School season passes; a family membership to W illow Creek Country Club; a Black Hills G old ring; fishing trips; 100 gallons o f gasoline; TrailBlazer tickets and more. lone Garden club members meet The lone Garden Club met at the home o f Delta Huber on Sept. 13. Birdine Tullis show ed some of the common garden and roadside plants that could be dried and used in ar rangements. She said that "a ir d ry in g " can be done by hang ing bunches of flowers on nails in a basement or dry room. Some suitable plants for drying are button mums, marigolds, coral bells, larkspur, peonies, m eadow grass and herbs like tarragon or sage. Members also discussed fall planting. "F in e G arden in g" magazine suggested that they plant y a rro w , col umbi ne, artemsia, campanula, valarian, coreopsis, gallardia, dianthus, oriental p op p ies and also shrubs and trees now. Huber reported that the M or row County Fair had a good number o f exhibits in the flow er division. She helped with the receiving of flower ex hibits on W ednesday. lone Garden Club members Helen Martin, Jean Nelson, Pat Pettyjohn and Huber are state life members. Martin presented new pins to each one o f them. Martin reported on Oregon State Federation o f Garden C lu b s ' m e e tin g hel d in Pendleton in June. She helped with registration and hospitali ty. Huber, Tullis, Martin, Lea Mathieu-Peterson and Corrine Miles helped make dried flower centerpieces for one of the lun cheons and did decorating o f the tables.
