Bob Tallman, popular with crowd
wants to hear. "They didn't
come to be educated," he said.
"They came to be entertain-
ed."
Still, Tallman realizes that
everyone has an opinion about
his announcing. " The job itself
is very simple: you say what
you see abou t what's happen-
ing," he said . " The position is
difficult because in an audience
of 16,000 people, you have
about 12,000 critics."
Tallman, the PRCA' s an-
nouncer of the year in 1982 and
Bob Tallman has become
something of a fixture at the
National Finals Rodeo. In his
20-plus years as a PRCA mem-
ber, Tallman has announced
the NFR eight times, including
five consecutive trips since
1989.
Tallman's knowledge of the
sports, his resonant baritone
voice and his ability to stir the
crowd's emotions have made
him one of the most popular
announcers in professional
rodeo. And little wonder. Tall-
man knows what an audience
'87, announces more than 200
rodeo performances each year.
He has hosted several rodeo-
oriented radio programs, and
has spent substantial time in
front of a television camera, as
well.
He holds a bachelor's degree
in agriculture economics, and
still raises cattle on his ranch in
Baker City with his wife, Kris-
ten, and daughter, Nicole.
