Nella Britt in front of raised garden beds The five elderly women stay ing at Hill House in Heppner can now work the soil in rais ed bed gardens, thanks to operator Nella Britt. Raised garden beds are recommended for individuals that find the bending involved with conventional gardening either difficult or impossible. While the women that stay at Hill House are not confined to wheelchairs, they do suffer from a variety of ailments that range from heart problems to diabetes to poor eyesight. With the aid of one of the residents, Britt recently planted the gardens with a variety of flowers and vegetables. O regon State U niversity Master Gardener Gail Hughés supplied Hill House with infor mation on the hows and whys of raised bed gardening. For copies of that information, con tact the Morrow County Exten sion Office, 676-9642, and leave a message for the Master Gardeners.
