(Pete) Haynes, former Lone- rock residents, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 21. An open house recep tion for the couple will be held Saturday, April 22 at the Uni ty Community Hall in Unity from 1 to 3 p.m. A program will follow with a tribute to the cou ple, old time music and lots of fun. The event will be hosted by their children and grand children. Food and beverages will be provided. The couple requests no gifts. Elvira de Arndt will be the guest speaker at a potluck din ner at lone United Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Ms. de Arndt serves with the United Evangelical Church of Ecuador in pastoral ministry and with the community ser vice and development projects. Her work is supported jointly by the Ecuadoran and Argen tinian churches, the Disciples of Christ and the United Church of Christ. Her visit to Oregon is made possible by First Congrega tional Church of Corvallis. Eric Roilis qualifies for All Saints to hold extra services state geography bee _____ This coming week before Easter is Holy Week and very busy at All Saints' Episcopal church. The church will celebrate with extra worship services. All Saints will host the com munity Singspiration on Sun day, April 9 beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. People should bring music, in struments or their favorite songs of praise and inspiration. A free will offering will be col lected for the outreach of the South Morrow Ministerial Association. This "Maundy Thurs day" service will begin at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, April 14, a special service will be held at noon. Christians celebrate Jesus' death on the cross as the price paid for our sins. A special time for Easter wor ship on Sunday, April 16 will be 11:30 a.m. instead of the normal hour. Father Miller will be present to celebrate a festive Holy Eucharist and preach the Eastern sermon. The entire community is welcome to attend any worship service at All Saints' church. and policy concerns at 6:45 p.m. This will conclude a series of informative exchanges between Roman Catholics, Episco palians, Methodists and the Lutherans about worship ser vices and beliefs. Eric Roilis \ Eric Roilis, a seventh-grader at Heppner Middle School, was recently notified that he qualified for the Oregon State Geography Bee on the basis of a lengthy written test. The state contest will be held at the Aldersgate Conference Center in Turner on Friday, April 7. One hundred students from grades four to eight will compete for the state title and the chance for a trip to the na tional finals in Washington, D.C. at the end of May. Roilis will have a chance to win cash and book awards. The state champion's expenses to Washington, D.C. are paid by the Geography Bee sponsors, National Geographic World and the Chrysler Corporation. Roilis is the son of Russell and Ellen Roilis of Heppner.His social studies teacher is A1 Beck. Nursing home residents honor Drs. 4-H horse club to start Heppner has been without an organized 4-H horse club for about a year but a new one will start up soon thanks to Jen nifer Rankin and her interest to help get a club going. Merlyn Robinson who has been a supporter of 4-H and the horse program for many years, will help with the club. Mary Erwin will be a co-leader. Erwin has just moved to the Heppner area. Rankin and Mandi Gutierrez will serve as junior leaders. This club will be a new club and address the interest of the club members. If members want to do more than horse show at fair, their other in terests will be addressed, said Bill Broderick, Morrow Coun ty extension agent. Anyone who would like to sign up for this club should call the Extension office 676-9642 as soon as possible to get on the list. An organizational meeting will be scheduled soon. "This should be a great new oppor tunity for young horse peo ple," said Broderick. EOSC lists winter term honor roll Erika Grant and Sara Green up, both Heppner, were among 238 students named to the dean's list at Eastern Oregon State College in LaGrande for the 1995 winter Karen Morgan holds items to be auctioned off at the 7th annual Ducks Unlimited banquet April 7 at the Elks Lodge. To qualify students must have a minimum of 12 graded credit hours and achiev ed a grade point average of 3.5 or better. A meeting for the parents of Heppner eighth grade students will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. in the Heppner Middle school cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting V will be to discuss the eighth grade party, set a date and make preparations. All parents are encouraged to attend. Students may attend if they wish. The group also discussed possible over night excursions next year to Cloud Cap Inn on Mt. Hood, Tullis' cabin at Penland Lake and Hughes' cabin at the head of Johnson Creek.
