The annual meeting is held in conjunction with the annual convention and banquet and the Roll of Victory Angus Show during the North American In ternational Livestock Exposition. The American Angus Association has more than 25,000 active members and is the largest beef breed organiza tion in the world. Ken Grieb, Lexington, has been elcted as an alternate delegate to the 111th annual meeting of the American Angus Association, Nov. 13-15 in Louisville, Kentucky, reports Richard Spader, executive vice president of the American Angus Association. Grieb, a member of the American Angus Association with headquarters in St. Joseph, Missouri, is one of 27b Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members of their state association to serve as an alternate representative at the annual meeting. Represen- "Master Gardeners, an Aid to the G ardener” was presented to the lone garden club members at their Oct. 12 meeting at the home of Lea Peterson. Gail Hughes, a master gardener who received her training at the April session was the speaker. The master gardener program is under the auspices of the OSU Extension Service. Hughes, along with Catherine Dowrey, Corinne Miles, John Murray and Cecil Rill of Morrow County, took the 40 hour training course. They are available to answer gardening questions either through the extension office or Veterans office closed Oct. 20 Regional Heppner office Oct. 20. She will be attending a veterans' conference in Klamath Falls. Rita Hedman, Veterans Ser- vice Officer, will not be in the personally. Hughes was en thused about all that she had learned and said that others in the community who are in terested in the training should contact the extension office. Plans were discussed for the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs an nual meeting which will be held in Pendleton on June 26, 27 and 28. Topics include multi-regional project reviews, including rural gas stations, tourism transpor tation plan, Eastern Oregon marketing, range feed beef, CCD marketing Orégon to Oregonians, ag marketing, NEOEDD beef processing, juniper utilization; the revolv ing loan implementation plan; tourism RFP response; and local project review, approval and contracting. But those wishing to learn a new craft or pick up some com puter skills are not too late. Tin Punch Art is scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 20 at the school district office in Lex ington. Students will learn the art of tin punch and make a decorative wall-hanging in the two hour session, scheduled from 7-9 p.m. The instructor, Shannon Rust, also has other patterns available for future projects. Tin punch has become a popular way to decorate kit chen cabinets and other wood work. Cost is $7.50 plus a $5 supply fee paid to the instructor. "Shoebox to Photo Album" is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 22, also at the district office. "This class does more than photos organized in an album, it can help record family history with pictures and captions," says Anne Morter, BMCC coordin ator. Rust is the instructor for this class too and "is hooked on this method of photo storage." Rust says she knows the best kinds of pages to use for long term storage and all the tricks of the trade to make each page come to life, like cropping, labeling and using colorful ac cessories. This class is schedul ed for 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $10 plus $5 lab fee to cover photo-safe album pages and other suplies. Students should bring a selection of favorite photos to class. Mr. Timmons, 68, of lone, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1994 as the result of a vehicle-train ac cident near the Heppner junc r* tion and Interstate 84. He was born April 13> 1926 at Gaston to Robert and Florence Matteson Timmons. He attend ed schools in both Gaston and Heppner. Mr. Timmons served with the U.S. Army in World War II and was decorated with the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the military in 1947, he worked on ranches in Heppner and surrounding areas. Later he was an over-the- road truck driver for Garrett Truck Lines. He retired in 1991. He purchased a small ranch on Rhea Creek near lone, where he raised cattle and horses. He especially enjoyed rodeos. Survivors include sisters Crystal Rathbun of Sundance, Wyo.; Patricia Wade of Her- miston and Jude Blakeman of Sheridan, Wyo. She joins two brothers, Jared, 12 and Kelly, 8 and a sister Olivia, 10 at home. Grandparents are Skip and Barbara Pettyjohn, and Donna and Lewis Thompson, all lone; Ginny Bolesinger, Oceanside. Great grandmothers are Helen Pettyjohn, lone and Myrtle Thompson, Dufur. The class will be cancelled if there is not sufficient enrollment. Upcoming computer classes include "Beyond Beginning Word Perfect" at Heppner High School on Sat. Nov. 19. "Intro to Word Perfect" Nov. 19 and "Intro to Spreadsheets" Dec. 3, will both be held at Riverside High School. All the classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and should increase your computer knowledge in a one shot program, said Morter. Classes feature lots of "hands on" time and plenty of ques tion and answer time. Cost for the classes are $42 each. Once a month cooking is of fered wth the orientation ses sion scheduled for Nov. 3 at Heppner High School. Students will prepare two weeks' worth of main dishes during the six hour cooking session scheduled for Nov. 12.
