Create memories
The end of summer is ap
proaching and a new school
year lurks around the corner.
Create a few more memories of
summer 1994. Spend time
together. Enjoy the outdoors,
the rain and snow will be back
soon enough, reminds Jan
Hare, Oregon State University
Extension family life specialist.
Here are some ideas for low-
cost outdoor family fun.
Pitch a tent in the backyard.
Fix dinner and breakfast out
side. Your dog will love the
company. No fair running in
side for TV. Tell stories. Play
hide-and-go-seek.
Roast
marshmalAws.
Plan an end-of-sum m er
neighborhood potluck. Invite
all the children to bring three
used toys. Have a toy
exchange.
Picnic once a week. Visit all
your local parks. Try a sunrise
grilled breakfast on a weekend
morning. Everyone has to help
pack it the night before.
Create a homemade pizza.
Star gaze and talk about your
day. Take a hike.
The list is endless. Fun
doesn't always have to be ex
pensive, says Hare. Some of
the best family memories are
the simple times together, not
the elaborate vacations. Enjoy
yourselves.
