Family barbecue set at W CCC The Willow Creek Country club will have a family barbecue on Sunday, June 19, at 4 p.m. Each family will bring their own meat to the barbecue. Those whose names begin with “ A” through ” 1” bring dessert; “ J ” through ” Z” salad. Hosts for the event will be Bob and Suzanne Jepsen, Ray and Norma French, Louis and Betty Carlson, and Wayland and Pat Hyatt. lone Garden Club met June 8 at the home of Birdine Tullis to discuss plans for the coming year. Program tor the day was a review of the book ' ‘Historic Trees and Shrubs” which was prepared by District #10 clubs in 1975. This book is housed in the Pendleton Library. lone club researched trees in the area that were 100 years or older. A meeting open to the public will be held July 13 in Woolery Park. The subject for the day will be “ Basic Flower Arranging Containers and Rules for the Beginner” . Everyone is invited. Those attending should bring containers and flowers. Kevin Erich to preach to Methodists Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church at Boise State University in Idaho June 15-19. The annual conference is the yearly meeting of the church dur ing which time plans are made and action taken and members at tending are inspired by corporate worship. The conference is composed of 221 churches in Oregon and southern idaho. Bishop William W. Dew, Jr., will preside. Kevin Erich, administrator of Pioneer Memorial Hospital and Clinic will preach Sunday, June 19 at the United Methodist Church in Heppner. in the absence of Rev. Bob Dowrey. Grace Drake will attend the an nual conference of the Oregon- Summer classes Everyone is invited to attend the 60th Wedding Anniversary o f begin at BMCC By A nn e M orter Blue Mountain Community College has an interesting selec tion of classes this summer term in the Heppner and lone area. BMCC coordinator Anne Morter recommends pre-registration to ensure notification of class changes or cancellation. Terry Calver of Calvert Com puter Systems in Athena offers "Welcome to Your Computer” on Saturday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course is designed as a crash course in computer literacy. Students can learn the basics or refresh their computer skills. Basic com puter ter minology is covered and “ hands on” time is featured. The class will be held at Heppner High School and will cost $35 per student. The popular Handgun Profi ciency taught by Gary Warren will begin July 6 and presently has space available. This course satisfies proficiency requirements for obtaining a concealed weapons permit. Students will receive classroom and range in struction. Enrollment is limited so pre-registration is required. The class room sessions will be held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Morrow County School District Office on in Lexington. Students will also have a four-hour session on the H eppner Shooting Range. Anyone with a felony conviction is ineligible for the class. Tuition is $30. Mommy and Me is a class designed to introduce children to the joys of water. Supervised in struction by instructor Barb Col lin. is designed to help them feel secure and comfortable in the water and lay the foundation for years of water enjoyment. This class will begin June 28 and will follow the same schedule as swimming lessons. The class con sists of 10 half hour sessions and costs $15. Power volleyball is being of fered in Heppner by Susan Hisler. This course will offer the opportunity to learn and sharpen volleyball skills as well as scrim mage time. Students must be at least incoming eighth graders to participate. The class will be held at the Heppner Junior High Gym on Monday nights from 7-9 p.m. starting June 27. The day of the week may change after the first class if the majority finds another day more convenient. The class runs six weeks and tuition is $15. Finally, in lone, an aerobics class is offered beginning Mon day, June 20. The class will meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays for six weeks. In structor Kim Bedortha will offer both high and low impact exer cises. Class time is 8-9 a.m. at the lone Elementary School gym. Tuition is $20.
