Students in grades one through eight were recognized and honored for academic excellence and for par ticipation in special programs and contests. The program got under way with the Parents’ Club recogni tion of A1 Beck and Karen Dubu que for 25 years of teaching in Morrow County. It concluded with the Presidential Academic Fitness Awards for the top students in sixth and eighth grade. • Refreshments were provided by the Parents’ Club following the assembly. The course is sug gested for those interested in becoming a trained lifeguard or for those who need to update their lifeguard certification and skills. Participants who are certified through this course will be eligi ble for lifeguarding in non-surf aquatic environments. This course will cover such topics as preventive lifeguarding, non swimming assists, water emergencies, approach strokes, swimming assists, carries and lifts, surface dives, search and rescue, pool safety and maintenance. Successful par ticipants will possess a valuable certificate for employment purposes. Participants must be at least 15 years old prior to taking or before graduating from the lifeguard training course, have a current ARC First Aid and Adult CPR certificate and be in good physical condition and have good swimm ing skills. The course will be taught in nine three-hour sessions. The first session will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 9. The following sessions will be given through June 14. The course is offered through Blue Mountain Community College. Anyone in terested in taking the course should call BMCC coordinator Anne Morter 422-7040 or the in structor Sarah Carlson, 422-7245.
