Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, March 2, 1994 - SEVEN Letter to the Editor Vote yes for school levy To the Editor: 1 would encourage all citizens of Morrow County to give , serious consideration to the im portance of passing the Morrow County School District bond. The bond proposal was drafted to allow for construction of new classrooms to reduce the over crowded conditions that current ly exist, to make needed repairs and to improve technology educa tion throughout the district. As you are aware, our region has shown a significant popula tion increase in the last few years. This has caused overcrowded conditions in many o f our schools. If we expect to continue to be competitive in attracting quality business and industry, our schools must meet the same ex pectations as other assets of our region. The employment opportunities for our students in the future will depend upon technology skills developed today. Improvement of technology education across our district is essential for our graduates to be employable. It is our responsibility to provide our students with skills and oppor tunities for success. Please join me in voting yes for the future of our students and communities. Sincerely, (s) Barbara L. Wetherell Boardman Vote yes for school bond To the Editor: As a new resident of Morrow County, I was pleased to learn of the school district’s plans for the future of the youth of the county. Even though both my son and daughter have entered the college ranks, their progress as well as their future was enhanced by pro gressive educators and the school boards that provide the platform upon which those educators perform. A most important item in the educational process, but one that many in America overlook, is the school house. They are always present in all of the towns, but most of us haven’t taken the time to consider how they got there. Somebody, sometime, every where, made a decision to have a place to school our children. Even in the old west, as a com munity developed, one of the first things was a school. Now it appears to be time for the somebodies, here, to do the right thing for the children of to day and of the next century. It may cost a bit more these days, but it will be far cheaper this year than a few years from now, and all delays will mean is that a few more of our own are cheated. As a member of the Oregon State U niversity Advocates group, who lobbies with our legislature for the future of higher education, I can state from first hand know ledge that state government is far less interested in providing money to our local needs, and to rely upon anyone but ourselves for local things is wishing upon a star, if you get results, it is merely a coincidence. I personally encourage a yes vote for the county school bond. (s) Jack Palmer Boardman Boardman chamber supports levy To the Editor: The North Morrow County Chamber of Commerce has unanimously supported the Mor row County School bond levy. The hard part will be each of the voters of Morrow County School District educating themselves about the urgent school needs. Hopefully, you will see fit, for the youths of our community, to vote in favor of this necessary levy. Regardless of what you decide, please vote on this vital issue. Respectfully, (s) Robert J.
