The film deals with a young soldier in Vietnam, Dave Roever, who had over 40 percent of his skin burned off by a grenade ex ploding in his hand. He went blind in his right eye and deaf in his right ear. “ Roever’s amazing testimony about ^ o t only his physical recovery by this emotional and spiritual healing is one of the most dramatic you may ever see or hear,” said Tim VanCleave, pastor of the Christian Life C enter. “ Through the faithfulness of God and the lov ing support of his wife, Brenda, he has experienced a restoration so vomplete that his message has been heard around the world a message that can bring healing for the deep emotionally, mental and spiritual scars tormenting to day’s generation.” “ Scars That Heal” shares this “ unforgettable” true story through Dave Roever’s own words. While on the outside, he remains scared from the grenade, he says, “ My soul is not scarred. My spirit is not patched together. I’m proud of my scars and stripes. Maybe my life hasn’t been easy but these scars tell a story.” “ Scars That Heal” is a documentary-style film with dramatic reenactments from World Wide Pictures, the motion picture ministry of the Billy G raham Evangelistic Association. Ayers, 90, of Hepp ner, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1993 at his home. The funeral was held Tuesday, November 23 at the First Chris tian Church in Heppner. Con cluding services and burial followed at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Ayers was bom Aug. 22, 1903, at Pine City on Buttercreek to James and Mary Wattenburger Ayers. He attended school and later farmed in the Pine City area. On September 25, 1951 he married Sophie Cox at Lewiston, Idaho. They lived at lone and later moved to Heppner where he was self-employed in the pest control business. He was a member of the BPOE 358. Mr. Ayers enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Sophie, of Heppner; daughter, Juanita Widmer of Gresham; son, Ray of Pendleton; sister Edna Coxen of Salem; seven grand children, nine great grandchildren and eight great-great grand children. Sisters Dessie and Ruby and brothers, Art, Frank and Harvey, died earlier.
