Students in grades five and six accumulated 847 hours during the month of October. Prizes of Trailblazer and NBA bags, basketballs, posters, pen nants, shirt, water bottles, pens and other items were awarded to the top 30 “ Rip City Readers” . Lindsey Ward and Kimmy Marvin were the top readers in the fifth and sixth grades. In ad dition to Ward and Marvin the top 30 readers were: Lindsay Greif. Ben Goodyear, Mathew VanLiew, Trishti Adams. Students who read an hour or more each week received week ly rewards in addition to the final prizes. Other incentives included a read-in after school on Oct. 28 from 3:15-8 p.m. Forty students read, watched a movie, had din ner and read some more. “ The program was a rousing success,” said Allen, and plans are sure to include Blazer reading in the fall of ‘94. Money for prizes was raised by a bake sale, a book sale and a Halloween raf fle. These fund-raisers generated $200, all of which was put into the program. Club members will demon strate how to make wreaths at the Artifactory Saturday, Dec. 4. The Garden Club met Nov. 8 with Jane Rawlins presiding. A video was shown about the care of houseplants, from potting to feeding and propagation. Also, the council will discuss officers for 1994.
