The girl called 911 when she discovered her family had left the rest stop without her The Morrow County sheriff s department teletyped ahead to other agencies to attempt to locate the family. Certain prescription and non prescription medicines have been reported to lower the blood sugar which is called “hypoglycemia” or increase blood sugar, which is called “hyperglycemia.” Low Blood Sugar: According to a recent report in Postgraduate Medicine, the ingestion of exces sive amounts of alcohol is consid ered the major cause of hypo glycemia related coma and death in all age groups of diabetics in the United States. An article in Dia betes Care indicates that high doses o* ispirin, such as doses used in relief of arthritis symptoms, can cause low blood sugar levels in bottTdiabetics and nondiabetics. High Blood Sugar: Diuretics or “water pills” may increase blood sugar levels in diabetics after 2 to 4 weeks of therapy. Other medicines that may increase blood sugar in clude the combined oral contra ceptives (type that contains estro gen and progestin), cortisone-type medicines, and certain deconges tant medicines such as phenyl ephrine, pseudoephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine. Medical experts feel that, while none of these medicines must be avoided entirely by diabetics, such medi cines should be used with consid erable caution. Diabetics: Use Certain Medicines Cautiously The Heppner Garden Club will offer a six-week six-lesson course in Basic Flower Arranging begin ning Tuesday, June 29. The class will be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. until August 3, at the St. Patrick’s Senior Center din ing room. This ‘hands-on’ course, prepared by the National Coun cil of State Garden Clubs, will in clude lessons on vertical line designs, horizontal line designs, vertical line-mass designs, mass designs, weathered wood in design and the use of fruit, vegetables and accessories in design. The cost of the course will be $5 which includes the instruction manual and basic incidental mechanics for completing each of the six designs. Additional sup plies will be available for pur chase at cost. Those wishing to enroll should bring clippers or scissors, a receptacle such as a basket or box for mechanics and flowers if they have them. “ For some time people have been asking for this kind of w o rk sh o p ,” said a club spokesperson. “ We are now looking forward to presenting it.” To enroll or for more informa tion call 676-9435 or 676-9640. Bryants win day care drawing Howard and Beth Bryant were the winners of the Heppner Day Care 20/20 drawing. The Bryants won $120 in the contest but donated the money back to the day care. Those who entered the contest paid $1 a week for 20 weeks.
