North Lex club attends show
By Anne Morter
Four members of the North
Lex Livestock club attended the
Tygh Valley Livestock show June
3-6, sponsored by the Oregon
Wheat Grower’s League.
Jessica and Shelby Krebs and
Luke and Adrienne Swanson
showed their market hogs in
various competitions, including
confirmation and showmanship.
The girls also competed in the
judging and herdsm anship
competition.
Adult leader. Maureen Krebs,
reported that the local competitors
did well, especially with two of
the girls showing animals for the
first time. She said that the
weather was less than ideal, with
“ buckets” of rain and lots of
mud, but the kids had a good time
and did well in all the classes.
The Krebs camped in one of
their ranches’ “ sheep camps” , a
homemade travel trailer of sorts
used in sheep camps. She noted
that their lodgings turned into
quite the conversation piece with
numerous people stopping by to
take a peak.
The show, which is an annual
event, drew competitors from all
over the state.

Nursing home gets new resident
The Blue Mountain Potato
Growers have announced that
they will award two $1,000
scholarships for college students.
“ We really feel proud of our
roots,” said Tyler Hansell of the
group’s scholarship committee.
“ The hard working families of
this region have built a multi
million dollar regional industry
around the Blue Mountain Potato
and we want to have a way to
show that pride.”
Hansell also said that the potato
growers are concerned about the
“ brain drain” of the area young
people and want to encourage
them to stay in Oregon and in the
potato industry.
For applications or more infor
mation contact Tyler Hansell,
scholarship committee, Blue
Mountain Potato Growers, Rt. 1
Box 1863, Hermiston, 97838.
Minster receives
scholarships
“ Those that love her, really love
her. They like her when she’s
quiet,” said Jones. She said the
kitten sleeps in the residents’
arms and plays at night. “ The
staff is enjoying her as much as
the residents,” added Jones. She
said that the staff has been pick
ing up toys for the kitten.
“ They’re really spoiling her.”
Jones said that the nursing
home had been working on get
ting a pet for the last year.
