Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 9, 1993 - THREE Lexington News Engagements Valby church plans special service By Delpha Jones Padberg — Sass Lee and Linda Padberg of Lexington, announce the engagement of their daughter Jodi Padberg, to Jeffrey Sass, son of Stan and San- di Sass of Mount Vernon, WA. . The bride-elect is a 1985 graduate of Heppner High School and a 1989 graduate of Oregon State University. She is employed as a forensic scientist by the State Patrol Crime Lab in Seattle, WA. Sass is a 1986 graduate of Sedro-Woolley high schcxil and graduated from Washington State University in 1991. He works as a trooper for the State Patrol in Seattle. The couple plan a September 11 wedding at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. Mathieu — Peterson -:-Recent visitors at the Leila Palmer home were Bud and Agnes Marshall of Vancouver, WA., Mr. and Mrs. Ken Mar shall of Zillah, WA. and Mr. and Mrs. Hasnink and children from Adams. -:-M r. and M rs. Alonzo Henderson from Hood River were Memorial Day callers in Lexington. -:-Earl Miller ofSeaview, WA. was a caller in Lexington one day last week. — :-C harlie and D arlene Padberg were callers on Monday from their home in Dayton, WA. They visited her mother, Alda Baker in Hermiston en route home. -:-Colleen Bergstrom from Lewiston, visited her son, Gene Wallace, and family and attend ed the graduation of her gran- daughter Melissa Wallace. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wallace, from Burbank, WA., spent Thursday evening at the Gene Wallace home and attended the graduation of their grandaughter also. -:-Gae and Ray Papineau and Shawn Eng were visitors over the weekend to attend the graduation of Shane Eng. -:-Fritz and Pat Cutsforth and Cecil and Delpha Jones attended the funeral service of Minerva Denslinger in The Dalles on Wednesday. Minerva was 97 years old. She often visited in this area at the home of her daughter Barbara Gilbert, husband Eldon and family. Dorothy and Bob Hawkins of Echo also attended. -:-Joni Schowning and brother, Darrell, of Beaverton, were re cent callers at the Bill Padberg home. Another visitor was a son Vic Klinger from Portland. -:-Eldon and Barbara Gilbert returned home on Tuesday from a Caribbean cruise and a trip to the southern states. -:-C harlene W hitney o f Portland spent the weekend with her parents, Cecil and Delpha Jones to attend the graduation of her nephew Mike Jones. Other callers were George and Jo Irvin of Irrigon. -:-Jack and Pat Ripple from Spokane, WA. were visitors last weekend at the John Ripple home and attended graduation. -:-Douglas Marquardt, 33, Pendleton, narrowly escaped in jury a few weeks ago as he was hit by a train in Pendleton. Doug was going to work at Albertsons in the early morning hours when he was blinded by the sun and couldn’t see that the train arms had come down. He ran through them and then became disoriented, thinking that they had just come down and hit him and he had to get off the tracks, tried to speed up but the train was already right there and crashed into the side of his subaru. He was a little sore but no major in juries, although his car was destroyed. Doug is the son of Bill and Rena Marquardt, Lexington. New video arcade opens Lea Mathieu and Joel Peterson, both of lone, announce their Engagement. The bride-elect is the minister of the lone United Church of Christ. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and of Union Theological Seminary in New York. Her parents, Joe and Myrtle Mathieu live in Belton, Texas. Peterson is the son of Don and Martha Peterson, lone. He is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA and farms south of lone. Two meals were taken out. Sylvia McDaniel won the free meal ticket and Ruby Becket of North Carolina received the guest prize. Members of the lone United Church of Christ served. Ed Dick and Irene Swanson are host and hostess for the month of June. The Meal Site Commit tee met following dinner. The menu for June 16, Father’s Day dinner is roast turkey, whip ped potatoes with gravy, peas and carrots, hot rolls and custard. Chris tian Life Center members will serve. Friday evening, June 4, Velma Wight was hostess for the dance at the senior center. Those present enjoyed dancing to music from records and tapes. Jane Rawlins held a tea in the sitting room Saturday afternoon June 5, so that friends could visit with her sister Jeanne Dobbs who is here from Hawaii. Senior bus driver Gene Cole is on vacation in the east. Ed Baker is the substitute driver. Wanda Johnson, who was a volunteer receptionist at the office has moved to Montana. She will be missed. Nadine Drummond, is a new office volunteer. She is the mother of Cheri Lovgren. More volunteers are needed. With some people ill and others on vacation, there is a shortage of office staff. Florence Holt, a tenant in the apartments is home from the hospital in Bend where she received medical attention. Marilyn Bergstrom is also at home again after surgery at Walla Walla. The quilters are working at getting the quilt ready so that ladies can take the blocks home to quilt. As soon as the blocks are finished they will take the summer off and meet in the fall to put the quilted blocks together. The arcade is located in the front of Skaggs Auto Clinic at the old Farley Motors building next to Coast to Coast. In addition to video games, the arcade also has a pool table.
