Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 26, 1993 - THREE District math contest winners announced The 1993 Morrow County School District Elementary Math contest was held May 19, at Sam Bourdman Elementary School for students in fourth through sixth grade. Tim Dickenson, Heppner, and Katie Tworek, lone, tied for the first place for the sixth grade. Fifth grade winner was Eric Roll is, Heppner and fourth grade winner was Joshua Reeve from A C. Houghton Elementary. Other winners include: Fourth grade: second-Jeremiah McElligott, lone, third-a tie bet ween Casey H uxoll, A C. Houghton and Jared Cowan, Sam Boardman; fourth-a tie bet ween Lindsay Ward. Heppner, Beth Skoubo and Sheree Steiner, Sam Boardman an Jacob Johnson. A.C. After losing two matches, he was eliminated from play. His open ing match was against Ed Coulter of Cascade, van't Ent kept the score close but lost 4-6, 5-7. The display took children and adults back to pioneer days. Besides grinding flour, kids were able to churn butter, roll out bread dough, wash clothes on a wash board, pump water, sharpen a tool on a grinding wheel, pan ’’gold” , make an arrowhead, i make a necklace and wash card ¡and hand-spin wool .fgr „a bracelet. The kids were also able to view displays and play with some of the handmade toys that pioneer children played with. The Pioneer Living Ex perience, put on by Terry and Shannon Hess of Tualatin, has brought the pioneer life to over 93.000 students in the state over the past two years.
