Mustangs remain undefeated
in league play, 9-0 record
By Jeremy Maddern
The Heppner Mustang dia
mond men
cruised to an
undefeated record in league play
after a dismal pre-season that
landed them a 1-5 record.
The Mustangs won their first
game over the Wasco County
Redsides but then went into a
slump as they lost to Grant
Union, Dufur, Riverside and the
Pendleton J.V . teams in
pre-season.
League play began for the
Mustangs as they defeated the
Stanfield Tigers twice in a
doubleheader. The Mustangs then
posted nine straight victories in
a row for a perfect 9-0 league
record. The victory over the
Umatilla Vikings assured the
Mustangs a first place standing.

Channel 14 open for trial viewing
The Heppner T.V. Inc. Board
of directors has announced that
Channel 14 on the cable system
is on. The Learning Channel was
broadcast on a trial basis for
about two weeks and the Si-Fi
channel (Science Fiction) is now
the shutout as the game was call
ed after five innings on the 10 run
rule. Wicklund has been a key in
gredient for the Mustang success
as he has held the pitching staff
together.
Sumner led the Mustang of
fense in the first game as he went
four for four at the plate to lead
the Mustangs’ win. The Rockets
could only manage one hit and
five errors led to the Rocket
downfall.
The second game began the
same as the first
as the
Mustangs jumped out to a 10-0
lead after two innings with Jim
Tellechea pitching. Chris Dicken
son came in the game and allow
ed Pilot Rock their only run of the
day, but it didn't matter as the
Mustangs rolled to a 13-1 win.
Jim Tellechea also did his job at
the plate as he went three for
four.
The Mustangs played the
Umatilla Vikings Tuesday, May
11, in a key doubleheader.
running for a trial viewing period.
The board is asking for input
in deciding what new basic chan
nel would be watched most. Call
