Speaking of rose bushes, since it will be awhile before those in your yards become reality, the Heppner Chamber of Commerce is again participating in the annual rose sale. April 7 “ Everything is Coming Up Roses” in Heppner and the surrounding area. For $15 per dozen, you may have roses delivered to a special per son just because you're thinking of them. To order a dozen roses, call the Cham ber office 676-5536, my home. 676-5349, Rollie Marshall 676-5453 or con tact any chamber member before Tuesday, March 30. This is one of the chamber's non-dues in come projects which helps them continue their plan of work without raising dues. It’s also one of the most rew arding because of the smile it brings to recipients. ♦Remember six years ago when the Rose City Motorcycle Club and friends came through Heppner? We greeted some 1,000 bikers and some of them remember eating a pancake din ner to help fund the senior center. They want to return on Saturday May 7 and hope to have their checkpoint in the “ heart of downtown Heppner” , so that participants who wish to take time to eat or look around may do so. Their checkpoints are Biggs, Heppner, Monument and Con don. We'll be on hand to give them a grand small town welcome and invite them to return when they can spend more time. ♦The St. Patrick’s Wee Bit O'lreland wrap-up meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Kate’s Pizza Wednesday, March 31. All com mittee chairpersons are encourag ed to attend. We’ll be setting the date for our 1994 celebration and reporting on 1993. Two readings were enjoyed, “ The Life of St. Patrick” , by Dorthy Wilson and "Food for Thought” by Dot Halvorsen. Morton Wolverton, past state master and a present member of the State Ex ecutive Committee, gave a demonstration of floor work. During the meeting the group practised ballotting and how to in troduce a distinguished guest. Dot Halvorsen of Willows Grange filled the chair of LAS and W olverton the chair of Overseerer. Wheatland Pomona Grange members were asked to assist with the serving of the din ner on Friday at the state Grange session in Pilot Rock. Margerat Thorpe was musician for the evening and assisted in the floor work practice. The meeting on April 19 will be booster night for the Grange. Members of the South Morrow County Community Choir will be a part of the program along with the presentation of 50-year jewels and certificates. Ben Boswell of Lostine, State Overseerer, w ill be the speaker for the evening. A potluck dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the dinner and the program. 4-H Speakeasy April 3 Morrow, Gilliam and Wheeler counties join forces to put on an annual “ Speakeasy” field day. This year “ Speakeasy” will be held on April 3 at the lone High School. Each field day is schedul ed from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those attending should bring a sack lunch because participants will work during the lunch hour. The easiest way to learn how to do a presentation is to attend a “ Speakeasy” field day, says Bill Broderick, Morrow County extension agent. This workshop is filled with activities to help overcome the ftar of public speaking. 4-H 'ers will play games, watch sample presenta tions and use fun kits to practice creating presentations. The Two-Trackers club will host a riding clinic featuring Pat Prince from Walla Walla this Saturday, March 27. at the Mor row County Fairgrounds begin ning at 10 a.m. Prince will demonstrate and discuss the correct use of the aids in the performance of the advanc ed equitation pattern and the Dad Marketing basics class offered Lexington News ______ By Delpha Jones Are you thinking of starting a small home based business to in crease your household income? Workshop presenters will be Darla Seale, owner of Country Flowers in Condon, Garth Davis, Small Business development Center, Blue Mountain Com munity College, Pendleton, and Ginger Keithley, county craft ar tist of Heppner. As an option, workshop part- cipants may bring an original pro duct, and submit it for anonymous critique. The group enjoyed bowling, playing hockey, ice skating, pizza and at tended a hockey game. -:-N orm an Newton from Portland, brother of Luella Taylor, was a recent visitor at the Taylor home. -¡-Kenneth and Connie Jones were Boise. Id., visitors over the weekend. They visited a son, Shawn Eng and other relatives and friends. -:-An officers’ training session for Grange members was held at Cold Springs Grange Hall on Saturday March 13. The meeting was conducted by the state master Dale Morris from Portland. Each officer present gave instructions to the subordinate chairman of the duties of their committees. Those attending from Morrow County were Willard French, Master of Willows Grange, Joan Griffith, member of Spray, Delpha Jones, county deputy of Wheatland Pomona and Cecil Jones, treasurer of Wheatland Pomona Grange. -¡-Dorothy and Ed Tucker and son, Kyle Tucker, and family were guests over the weekend at the home of her parents Glover and Josie Peck. Around 21 friends and relatives were present on Sunday for a birthday dinner honoring Glover on his birthday. -¡-Frances an Ken Smouse and daughter, Cherlyn, spent several days last week in Portland and Monmouth where they visited son, Carl, and attended to other business mattters. -¡-Holly Rebekah Lodge met on Thursday evening for the regular meeting with the N.G. Kathy Tellechea in the chair. Plans were made for the next two months’ activities, starting with a card party at the hall on Satur day, April 3. These parties have been held the first Saturday of each month this past winter. Pro ceeds go to the upkeep of the hall, such as roofing, oil and electrici ty, etc. Members are most ap preciative of the members and friends who come to support this. -:-A food sale is planned for the Saturday before Easter, April 10. An Easter bonnet style show with members decorating hats will be held at the next meeting. The hats will be judged with a prize for the cleverest. Virginia Peck won the door prize.
