Winner o f the miscellaneous division was Mike Armato, Portland, with his “ Lamb Panadas.” Penny Krebs, Cecil, took first place in the barbecue division with her “ Honey Mustard Ribs.” Second in that division was Mike Hedman, Pilot Rock, with his “ Easy Barbecued Lamb Chops.” Each o f the adult winners received cuts o f lamb donated by Superior Farms o f Hermiston. The contest was sponsored by the Oregon Sheep Commission, the Oregon Sheep Growers Association and the Heppner St. Patrick's Committee. “ Lamb Stew in a Puff B ow l” Stew: 2 lbs cooked cubed lamb (good use for leftover leg o f lamb) 1 can green beans, regular cut 1 or 2 16-ounce cans tomato sauce 3-4 peeled cubed raw potatoes 3 shakes Tabasco Sauce Leftover lamb gravy (if available) Combine all ingredients. Bake in 2 qt. casserole dish 1 hour. Puff Bowl: % C. water % C. margarine 1 C. baking mix (Bisquick) 4 eggs Boil water and margarine in 2 qt. saucepan. Add baking mix and stir vigorously over low heat un til ball forms, about l - l'/i minutes Remove from heat. Beat in one egg at a time until smooth. Spread in greased pie plate (9x1 -14 in.) Do not spread up sides. Bake 400 degrees until center is dry (30-40 minutes). Remove from oven and fill with stew. NO W OPEN MILEIUS AUTOMOTIVE 2 in John Day at the Grant Coun ty Extension office. Volunteers do not need to be expert fishermen, but they are expected to help teach (or assist) young anglers in a fishing program after the training. Birds are returning from their winter homes, looking for a place to build their summer homes. Plants and trees are starting to bud and bloom. In recognition o f this refreshing time o f year is the celebration o f Arbor Day. In observance o f this special day, the Heppner Ranger District will be celebrating Arbor Day by having a tree give-a-way Thurs day, April 8. Seven hundred seventy o f the following tree species will be given away: hybrid Poplar, Green Ash. Silver M aple, River Birch, White Dogwood, Ponderosa pine and Douglas-Fir. Heppner’s group celebrated its birthday by par ticipating in the St. Patrick’s parade. The girls had a float made symbolizing "Camp Fire In The W ilderness.” This year’s Camp Fire group has 36 children ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade. They made around $6,000 for Camp Fire boys and girls and almost $200 for their local group. “ We appreciate the support of the parents and businesses for their donations.
