Members made the wool angels out of wool that Maureen Krebs brought and red and green ribbon. The last thing members made was the halo that they put on the top of the angels’ head. Jeri McElligott came to help make the angels. North Lex B eef Club By Casey Evans, reporter The first meeting of the North Lex Beef Club was held November l at the lone High School cafeteria. Officers for the 1992-93 year were elected. President, Jake Bacon; vice president, Megan Proudfoot; secretary, Stephanie Haguewood and reporter Casey Evans. Four junior leaders were named: Jason Proudfoot, Laurel Tem ple, Jossie Evans and Melissa McElligott. Following elections, all members were tested over the body parts and cuts of beef. Those with steer projects should be getting their steers soon. Weigh-in is around March 10, 1993. The next meeting will be in January at Jossie and Casey Evans’ home. United M ethodist plans events During the month of December the children’s messages at the H eppner United M ethodist church will reveal the meaning of selected Christm ons which decorate the tree. Families will light the Advent candles each Sunday, reminding members of the birth of Christ. The choir will sing in most services. The Giving Tree will be up in the narthex with ornaments pic turing items the neighborhood center needs for Christmas baskets. Sunday, Dec. 13 the morning message will be revealed by the Sunday School. “ Grandma Drake” will tell the children a Christmas story concerning the colors of Christmas. Bob Isted will share special music. A potluck is planned following the service. Everyone is invited to attend. An all church Christmas carol ing will take place following the potluck on Dec. 13. Bundle up Martingales By Molly Barrow, reporter On November 18 the club met at the Barrows’ home. Members talked about their bake sale and made plans for the Christmas par ty. It will be held at Sybil Krebs’ house on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. Members will trade gifts and watch a movie. The club tried to think of things to do for the community service project. They discussed a few things that they might do. Snacks were served by Katie Bacon and Molly Barrow. and meet at the church. “ If you know someone in Heppner who would appreciate a visit please let me know,” says pastor Bob Dowrey. Sunday Dec. 20 Pastor Bob Dowrey and his wife Cathy cor dially invite everyone to the par sonage after church for a special coffee hour. The Christmas Eve candlelight service will be December 24 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to en joy a family oriented evening of singing carols and the lighting of the Christ candle. “ This is a great way to bring the spirit of Christ back to Christmas,” says Pastor Dowrey. City officials check out fire truck We would like to thank everyone in Morrow County and the community for their support through the entire football season. Other directors are Daniel McGrath, Extension agent in Marion County; and Glennis Chapin, Salem, Extension pro gram assistant in the Marion County office. Service awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture were also presented during the meeting. Receiving 30-year awards were Lois Goering, Cor vallis, extension home economics program leader, and Gary Schneider, Ontario, Malheur County extension agent. Earning 20-year awards were Floyd Bodyfelt, extension dairy processing specialist and Barbara Sawer, extension 4-H and youth specialist, both of Corvallis; Luther Fitch, H erm iston, Umatilla County extension agent; Ron Hathaway, Klamath Coun ty extension agent and staff chair; Vicki Osis, Newport, extension marine education specialist; and Carol Knothe, Ontario, Malheur County extension agent. The Heppner truck will be a lit tle different in that the cab will have a nose. The Baker City cab is custom built and the Heppner one will be standard. The truck will have a double cab with seats in the back, as required by the fire marshal. Marks said that fire department personnel can no longer ride on the back of the vehicle, but must be enclosed. The Heppner vehicle will also have a 250 hp engine with a special transmission to bring ef ficiency up, said Marks.
