On August 1 the Barnyarders
met at Kates Pizza. Members
discussed their pigs and how they
were doing. Then members
reviewed the pigs, sheep and beef
parts and talked about the fair.
The club plans to go to the Her
miston fair.
Bill Broderick, Morrow Coun
ty Extension agent, recently
received a master of arts degree
from Vermont College of Nor
wich University. His area of con
centration was adult education.
Broderick earned his master’s
degree through the graduate pro
gram at Vermont College which
provides students with the oppor
tunity to work independently
toward their M.A. under the
guidance of a core faculty advisor
and a field specialist in the
One hundred twelve people were present for the senior dinner on
August 5 including eight visitors. Members of the Christian Church
served. Alberta Johannes won the meal ticket, Beulah Ogletree the
door prize and Kathy Pitzer received the guest prize.
Stan Foster, executive director of CAPECO, several staff members
and the Nutrition Site Committee met with the senior center board
after the dinner to outline the changes and benefits of the programs
for seniors under the umbrella of CAPECO.
The Nutrition Site Committee held their regular monthly business
meeting later in the office.
The menu for August 19 will be salmon w ith tartar sauce, parsleyed
potatoes, pea salad, whole wheat roll and fruit crisp. Members of
the Christian Life Center and Mormon churches will serve.
The senior bus trip to Baker City August 14 is booked.
Bluegrass in the Blues and Barbecue 92 featuring Special Consen
sus, The Greers and Sawtooth Mt. Boys will be at the Red Lion Con
cert Bowl, Pendleton, Sat. Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. This is presented by
CAPECO to benefit low income families.
All seniors who would like to bake pies and work in the pie booth
at the fair please call the senior center office or stop by and sign-up.
Proceeds go to help maintain our center. Everyone’s help is needed.

August 4: Morrow County
deputy responded to the Ione area
for a report of criminal mischief.
A totem pole was removed from
a residence and later located in
front of the Post Office;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the Heppner Fire
Dept to an alarm sounding at
Pioneer Memorial Hospital. The
alarm was set off by a barbecue
going outside that had sent smoke
into the hospital setting off the
alarms;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the Boardman am
bulance to the Ready Mix Plant
for one male with an injury. Pa
tient was transported to Board
man Clinic;
Morrow County deputy ar
rested Robert John Brehm, 21, on
a Umatilla County Sheriffs office
warrant for Parole Violation.
Brehm was transported to
Umatilla County Sheriffs office;
Morrow County deputy
assisted the Oregon State Police
in attempting to locate a
a firefighter enroute to a fire area
to deliver a message;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Boardman
Fire dept to a report of a fire nine

Depot. Fire dept could not locate
the fire.

Haven House for a male with an
injury. Subject was transported to

bulance to the Village Inn Motel
for a male with an illness. Patient
refused transport;

bulance to an industrial accident
at the construction site of Onion
Plant at the Port of Morrow. One
male was transported to Good
Shepherd Community Hospital
with unknown injuries;

bulance to TACX Cubing Plant
for one male with an illness. Sub
ject was transported to Good
Shepherd Hospital;

Boardman Fire Dept to a grass
fire on Wilson Road across from
the Outback Apartments;

Eugenia Lawrence, 305 NE 9th,
Irrigon. A baby ring was reported
stolen. Amount of value

deputy responded to 1-84, mile
post 157 for a report of a female
subject throwing things on the
freeway. Deputy wasn’t able to
locate anyone upon arrival;

assisted the Boardman Police
Dept with a report of a disagree
ment at the Texaco station in
Boardman.
August 10: Morrow County
deputy responded to a prowler
call on Kunze and Paul Smith
Road in Boardman. Call was
unfounded;
Morrow County deputy took a
report of vandalism done to a
disabled pickup that was parked
near Graham's place on Hwy. 74
between Heppner and Lexington.
The pickup belonged to Jeff
Thomas of California.

Mechanical Thinning Project on
the Heppner Ranger District.
These subsoiling treatments
would relieve soil compaction,
reduce stocking levels, and pro
vide site preparation for planting
and natural regeneration. Subsoil
