SIX- Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 17, 1992 ASSE host families sought Cathy Halvorsen is bringing the world to northeastern Oregon, one international teenager at a time. Halvorsen is the area representative for ASSE Interna tional Student Exchange, a non profit, public benefit organiza tion. The primary goal of ASSE is to contribute to international understanding by enabling foreign students to learn about the United States through active par ticipation in family, school and community life. Halvorsen is interviewing families in the northeastern Oregon area to host high school students from Scandinavia, Ger many, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, Holland, Japan, Mexico, Canada. Australia, and New Zealand. This year ASSE is proud to add Estonia, Czechoslovakia and Poland to its international roster. The students stay with volunteer host families for an academic year and arrive with comprehen sive insurance and their own spending money.
