Patrick’s class 1A state track meet Senior Center Bulletin Board By Anne Morter events. She toured the 1500 in 5:05.8 and then returned with an 11:20.5 in the 3000. Deacon Heideman provided most of the punch for the boys’ team, winning the discus in 140’ and finishing second in the 110 hurdles in 16.5. Heideman scored 17 of lone’s 35 points. The team finished fifth in the team race. Rounding out the girls’ scoring was Jamie Lovett, who finished fifth in the discus in 99’1” and Janie Cupps who was fifth in the high jump 4 ’8” and the 1600 relay team that finished sixth in 4:38.5. For the boys, the 1600-relay team provided an exciting finale to the meet. They improved their time by three seconds to run a 3:36.7 and finished second. Each member of the team improved his individual time but Wallowa out dueled them in the stretch. Also scoring at the meet were Gabe Garcia, fourth in the 400 in 53.46, Justin Miller, fourth in the pole vault in 10’4 ” and Ryan Halvorsen, sixth in the triple jump in 38’6” . Members of the Episcopal church served. Ed Dick won the meal ticket, Lois Winchester the door prize and Mary Beckley of Boardman received the guest prize. Hobo gifts went to Dot Halvorsen, Barbara Struthers, Laura Searles, Alberta Johannes and Eva Griffith. A group of seniors sang “ Bum- min Around” , accompanied by Katherine Hoskins at the piano. After the meal Twila Schell of the Deaprtment of Human Resources met with the Seniors regarding insurance coverage for volunteers at the mealsite. The lovely bouquets of flowers for the center were brought by Lois Winchester. Thursday May 21, Carol Michael-Bennett Morrow County Ex tension agent gave an interesting class on “ Laughter is the Best Medicine.” Friday eight seniors rode the bus to Pendleton where they met Merri Reamer for lunch at the senior center. They then attended the film fair at BMCC where they viewed films on the various aspects of aging. The menu for the dinner June 3 will be salmon with tartar sauce, whipped potatoes, coleslaw with carrots, French bread and pudding. Members of the First Christian Church will serve. Following din ner there will be a mealsite committee meeting. Dates to remember: Monday, 1-4 p.m. quilting. Quilters and Com pany have chosen the pattern for the next quilt; Tues. & Thurs. 10-10:30 a.m. exercise; Saturday Dance at Hermiston. For those interested in dancing the last Sunday dance until fall at the Pendleton Senior Center will be a hard time dance, Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. Lutheran church to observe Rural Life The congregations of Hope and Valby will observe rural life on Sunday, May 31. BMCC offers EMT I workshop Blue Mountain Community College will offer an EMT I Recertification Workshop May 29 and 30. The classes will be held at BMCC in Pendleton in the health education building. The classes apply toward recertifica tion but they are also meant to ad dress patient care at the basic level. The tuition of $35 includes lunch on Saturday, May 30. Registrants may attend as many or as few classes as they wish. Registration and sign-in on Fri day is from 6-7 p.m. with classes running from 7-10 p.m. Saturday registration and sign-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with classes starting at 8 a.m.. and running through 5 p.m. The class schedule will be available at the time of registration. Students may register the day of the class, but the course is limited to the first 100 registrants and pre-registration is ap preciated. Booster club to elect officers « A H eppner High School Booster Club meeting has been set for Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at the HHS home ec room. Included on the meeting’s agenda will be election of officers. The club through donations and other assistance is involved with all sports at the high school.
