TWELVE - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 13, 1992 Lexington News ____________ By Delpha Jones -¡-C olleen B ergstrom of Lewiston, ID. was a recent visitor in Lexington with her sons and other relatives. -:-Earl Miller of Seaview, WA has been a visitor at the home of his aunt and uncle Cecil and Delpha Jones. -:-Jim and Sandy Putnam are staying with her mother Pat Wright. -¡-Cecil Jones and Earl Miller wre visitors last week at the VA hospital in Walla Walla, WA, where they visited a former Lex ington resident, Charlie Padberg. Earlier in the day Eileen and Eldon Padberg had visited. Charlie is the brother of Eldon. -¡-Faye Ruhl visited her son Skip, at Good Shepherd Com munity Hospital on Monday. He underwent surgery that day. -¡-Debra Jones and daughter Janie and Brenda of the Tri- Cities, visited with her parents Joe and Hilda Yocom on Mothers Day weekend. Others for dinner on Sunday were Marie and Leland Jones and children, Millie West and children of Pendleton, Renee and Jack Yocom of Hepp ner, Martha and Gary Munkers and sons and Cecil and Delpha Jones. Riverside student takes first in district contest Kelly Spray, a senior at River side High School, took first place in Division III at the Morrow County School District Spelling Contest held at Riverside High School. Kelly has now won nine consecutive division champion ships in this annual contest. Jake McEUigott, a sixth grade student at lone Middle School, and Allen Day, a ninth grade stu dent at Riverside High School were the champions in Division I and n , respectively. The top three finishers in each division were as follows: Division I elementary to grade six: first-Jake McEUigott, lone; second-K risti M ason, Sam Board man; third-a tie between Lara Fritz, Sam Boardman and Jayme Hanson, Heppner Middle School. Division II grades 7-9: first- Allen Day, Riverside; second- Donnie Pointer; Heppner Middle School; third-Gabe Escobedo, Columbia Junior High. Division in grades 10-12: first- Kelly Spray, Riverside; second- Tony Becket, Heppner; third- Brent Sheirbon, lone. -•-Judy Groshens of Irrigon underwent major surgery at Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston. - -Bob and Luella Taylor spent the weekend at Newport, visiting her family. Chamber Chatter By Claudia Hugh— , c h a m b f manager “ Hats off to Morrow County” opens all kinds of opportunities for the 1992 Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro-Rodeo parade, booths, and publicity, our vivacious Court were guests at the Chamber luncheon Tuesday. Dressed in their attractive red and black outfits, they shared events and activities for August 19 through the 23. A competition for businessmen or an across county Chamber Challenge is in the wind to occur sometime during the weeks events. We’re open for ideas just as long as it doesn’t in volve being drug on the end of a rope or bucked off something. In the meantime, Chamber is preparing for the parade, schedul ing Paddy Wagon appearances, mailing out brochures, and plan ning on helping “ man” the rodeo gate and attend the fair on Thursday. * Jane Rawlins is busy planting the empty planters on Main Street. Hats off to her and Garden Club members and the businesses who maintain the Chamber planters. It shows community pride. * Many Chamber of Com merces have A m bassador Groups. I’m told they have a great time promoting their com munities at events across the state. In fact, there are now con ferences held for the various groups with the next one schedul ed for September 25-27 in Gresham. Included will be an op portunity to participate in the parade promoting your town, ride the Stemwheeler, and hear some excellent speakers. Please contact the Chamber office if you would be interested in starting a Hepp ner Ambassadors group to act as greeters for events and activities and to promote our events around the state. Start those creative juices flowing...leprechauns on parade; hats off to Heppner; western theme. Deputy was unable to locate horses upon arrival; Morrow County deputy receiv ed a report of vandalism to a vehi cle belonging to Walt Avery, Rt. 2, Irrigon. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy ar rested Jose Manuel Castillo- Galindo, 27, Spokane, WA. for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, No O peraters License and Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. Subject was lodged at Benton County Jail. May 8: M orrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Arlington ambulance to a motor vehicle rollover, a pickup, camper and boat, on 1-84, mile post 116, west bound, with in ju ries. One person was transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center; M orrow County deputies received a report of a drunk driver to east bound on 1-84 near Boardman. Deputy was unable to locate driver; M orrow County deputies responded to a Boardman area resident regarding a vehicle pro blem. Investigation is continuing. May 9: M orrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Arlington Fire Dept, to a pickup on fire on 1-84 at mile post 149. Fire was contained; M orrow County deputy responded to an alarm at lone High School. Alarm turned out to be false; M orrow County deputy responded to an Irrigon residence to investigate a complaint of telephone harassment; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Heppner am bulance to a Lexington residence for a man with an unknown il lness. One male was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Spray Fire Dept, to a grass fire south of Spray. Fire was contained; M orrow County deputy responded to Lexington to in vestigate a report of suspicous people going door to door. May 10: Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman Police Dept, with breaking up a loud party; Morrow County deputy con tacted an Irrigon resident regar ding possible stolen property; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Arlington Fire Dept, to a grass fire on 1-84 mile pst 119. Fire was contained; Morrow County deputy con tacted the custodian of AC Houghton School in Irrigon for an investigation on vandalism done to the school. Investigation is continuing.
