The baby weighed 9 lbs. 1 oz. 4-H News The Niffty Needlers By Brooke Boyer, reporter The Niffty Needlers 4-H club met at the home o f Brooke Boyer on December 9. President Min dy Qualls was not at the meeting. Members now have $7 dollars in their treasury. The money was made by recycling pop cans. M em bers made bags for Christmas presents. The club also has three new members. They are Stephanie Clough, Allison Sykes and Macy Rhea. Justice Court R e p o rt____ The Justice Court office at the courthouse annex building in Hepp ner reports handling the following business during the past week: Charlie James Sumner, 35, Lexington-Vehicle Registration Ex pired, $18 fine; Sharia Peltomaa Snider, 31, Ione- Excedding the Maximum Speed Limit, 68 mph in a 55 mph zone, $46 fine; John Louis Britt, 53, Heppner-No Tail lights on Trailer, $18 fine; Tracy Shawn W ilson, 18, Heppner-Theft II, $302 fine, 60 days in jail, $175 and jail sentence suspended with one year probation no further violation of the law ex cluding minor traffic, make restitu tion for gasoline by Jan. 13, 1992; Lance Evan Jones, 45, Heppner- Vehicle Registration Expired, $11 fine; Mickey Owen Sharp, 34, Heppner-Failure to Wear Safety Belt, $11 fine; Alice Nethery Traylor, 34, Heppner-Exceeding the Maximum Speed Limit, 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. $46 fine. Boardman man given 10 years Bobby Hamilton, 23, Board- man, was convicted o f attempted arson in a 1988 fire which destroyed the Hitching Post Restaurant in Boardman, and has been ordered to serve a 10-year jail sentence, according to Mor row County District Attorney Jeff Wallace. At a hearing held December 5 in Heppner, Circuit Judge Pro- Tern Richard Courson found that Hamilton had violated his proba tion by committing another crime and ordered his probation revok- ►A cH*pp> - 'H o h d t v t O c a l- ed. He ordered thpt Hamilton serve 10 years in prison and that he serve a minimum sentence o f five years before being eligible for parole. His father, Jay Hamilton, was also convicted o f first-degree ar son in connection with the fire and given a 10-year prison sentence in 1988. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County S h eriffs of fice dispatched the Arlington am bulance to the Post Office for a male with an unknown illness. Transport was made to Mid Col umbia Hospital in The Dalles; Morrow County S heriff s of fice dispatched the Heppner Fire department to the Heppner Elementary School for an audi ble alarm. Alarm was false; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a report o f telephone harassment. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County Sheriff s of fice dispatched the Condon Fire department to a chimney fire on Church St in Condon; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Irrigon area for suspicious circumstances. December 4: Morrow County S h eriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to the Nomad for a male subject with an injury. Subject refused transport; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Irrigon area for an attempted break-in at Sunridge Homes; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Boardman area for a report o f reckless driving; Morrow County Sheriff s of fice dispatched the Boardman am bulance to Wilson Road for one m ale d ow n. Subject was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital; Morrow County deputy took a report o f a stolen vehicle from Pauls in Irrigon; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a report o f telephone harassment. Investigations are continuing. December 5: Morrow County deputy responded to Greg's in Ir rigon for a suspicious vehicle; Morrow County S heriff s of fice dispatched the Condon am bulance to Church St for a transfer to the clinic. December 6: Morrow County S h eriffs office dispatched the Fossil ambulance to Asher Clinic for transfer o f a patient from the clinic to Pioneer Memorial Hospital; Morrow County deputy con tacted a citizen at Pauls in Irrigon for a report o f damage done to a v e h ic le . In v estig a tio n is continuing. December 7: Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Boardman Fire department to a small fire in an abandoned silo near Mt. Adams Rd. Boardman. Fire was contained; Morrow County deputy con tacted an lone resident regarding a traffic problem south o f S u rv iv o rs includ e tw o daughters Virginia Wilkinson, Heppner and O live Suarez, Washington, D.C.; one son, Her man Ray Dean, Washington, D .C .; two step daughters Diane Christo, Panama City and Deb bie Allen, Woodland Park, CO.; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The Comforter Funeral Home, Port St. Joe, Florida, was in charge o f arrangements. Obituaries department with an unwanted subject. December 8: Morrow County deputy arrested Michael James Alger, 34, Hermiston, on two warrants. One from Umatilla Police department for Failure to Appear on a Driving While Suspended charge and one from Umatilla County S h eriffs office for littering within 100 yards o f water. Alger was lodged at Umatilla County Jail; M orrow C ounty deputy assisted concerned parents with locating children who were late. All children were located and safe; M orrow C ounty deputy assisted the Boardman Police departm ent with a fam ily disturbance; M orrow C ounty deputy assisted the Heppner Police dept in a report o f a domestic distur bance near Chase St. Heppner. December 9: Morrow County deputy arrested Steven James Dickenson, 39, Heppner, for Driving Under the Influence o f Intoxicants. He was cited and released; Morrow County deputy took a report o f theft from Morrow County Roads Dept. Tools and grinder valued at $600 were reported taken; Morrow County S h eriffs of fice dispatched the Boardman Fire dept, for a brush fire on 1-84, west bound mile post 165; Morrow County S h eriffs of fice dispatched the lone EMTs and the Heppner ambulance to lone for one male. Subject was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital and then air lifted out o f Portland; Morrow County S h eriffs of fice dispatched the Boardman fire dept to a brush fire at Parkside Drive Lot 11; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Heppner area for a neighborhood problem; Morrow County deputy took a missing person report from the Ir rigon area. Subject was a 21 year old female; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to the Irrigon area to assist in locating a person. Per son was located. December 10: Morrow Coun ty S h eriffs office dispatched the Heppner ambulance to Elder St. One female was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital; Morrow County S h eriffs o f fice dispatched the Boardman fire depart, to a brush fire on Hwy 730/1-84 junction. Department was advised to disregard as the State H ighw ay had tw o maintenance men burning; Morrow County S heriff s of fice dispatched the Boardman am bulance to the Nomad parking lot for one female. Female was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital. Lexington; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to a Boardman business to assist Boardman Police department with an in vestigation o f a suspicious person complaint; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to an Irrigon residence to deliver an emergency message; M orrow C ounty deputy responded to a Heppner business to assist the Heppner Police Edward M. Kenny Sr. Former Heppner resident Ed ward M. Kenny Sr., 77, o f Spokane, W A. died Monday, Dec. 2, 1991 in Spokane. Vigil service was held at the Rose Chapel, Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, Spokane, on Fri day, Dec. 6. Funeral Mass was Saturday at the St. Francis o f Assisi Catholic Church with in terment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Mr. Kenny was bom April 8, 1914 at Heppner to John F. and Bridget Mollahan Kenny. He was raised on a sheep and wheat ranch near Heppner and worked with his grandfather for several years. On July 14, 1941, he married Lillian C. Nooy at Pendleton. The Kennys had been residents o f Spokane for 40 years. Mr. Kenny worked in produc tion credit for 30 years retiring in 1976 as an ad m inistrative assistant. He was a member o f St. Fran cis o f Assisi Parish, a lifetime member o f the Spokane Elks and the Knights o f Columbus. Survivors include his wife, at the home; son Edward Jr., o f Tumwater, W A.; daughter M. Patricia “ Pat” Bogenreif o f Spokane; brothers William o f Heppner, Matthew o f Portland, Emmett o f Pendleton and James o f Lake Oswego; sisters M. Ilene Richards o f McKinleyville, CA. and Patricia Erwin o f Portland; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverpark Care Center Building Fund, 4444 West Downriver Drive, Spokane, WA 99205. Herman R. Dean Funeral Services were held for Herman R. Dean, 91, o f Port St. Joe, Fla. Dec. 2, 1991 at the First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe. Interment followed at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe. Mr. Dean was a native o f Greenville, Texas and grew up Denison. He played clarinet in the high school band and joined the Navy in 1917, playing with the John Phillip Sousa’s Naval Band. He was the last surviving member o f that band. In 1939, he retired from the Navy moving to Kenneth M. Snider Recitation o f the rosary for Kenneth Snider was held Sunday, December 8 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner. Funeral Mass was Monday at the church with concluding service and vault interment at the Hepp ner Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Snider, 22, o f lone, died Wednesday, Dec. 4 , 1991 at Emanuel Hospital in Portland from complications as a result o f a motor vehicle accident on Nov. 7 near lone. He was bom Sept. 12, 1969 at Pendleton to Harold and Joyce Salter Snider. He grew up and at tended schools in lone graduating from lone High School in 1988. He was a junior at Oregon State University in Corvallis and a member o f Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was a member o f the W illow Creek Country Club and Heppner BPOE 358. He en joyed hunting, skiing, tennis, g o lf, trapsh ootin g and motorcycling. Survivors include his parents at the home; sister Janice Brooks o f Pendleton; brothers Dick o f lone and Larry o f Salt Lake City, Utah; grandfather, Hugh Salter o f Marianna and organizing the first Marianna High School band. He was recalled to active duty in 1941, and was discharged in 1944. He returned to Marianna with their band, resigning in 1948. He moved to Panama City in 1950, founding the Everitt Jr. High School band. In 1953, he moved to Port St. Joe and organized the Port St. Joe High School band and music depart ment, retiring in 1966. He was director o f the Wewahitchka High School band for the 1967 school year. The Everitt Jr. High School and the Port St. Joe High School band suites were named in his honor. He was a member o f the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe. lone.
