City officials believe that they have discovered the cause of (he pro-“ * blems with the Heppner Swimming pool. The pool has been closed in termittently throughout the swimm ing season because of cloudy water. According to city administrator Gary Marks at the city council meeting August 12, an engineer’s report indicates that the cloudiness is caused by a combination of sedi ment build-up in the pool’s pipes which restricts the water flow and leaves sediment in the pool, and an ineffective filter system. A new filter system was installed July 12 but, while it has improved the filtering system, js not large enough to resolve the problem. Other problems include cracks in the pool deck, and the existance of only one drain in the pool. Accor ding to city public works director Dave Winters, regulations now re- qire more than one drain. Winters also said that regulations call for a six-hour turnover of water in the filtering system, which is not being met. Marks said that the city will ex plore “ new options” with regard to The Historic St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hagerstown, Maryland, was the city pool and plans to form a the setting for the April wedding of Lisa Lynn Rupp and Christopher Eugene community group to explore the op tions.
