Fair and Rodeo Supplement to the Heppner Gazette-Times - August 7, 1991 Page SIX Court Pennant Bearers young but experienced A busy summer has been the norm around the Tom and Anne Bedortha house this summer, with pennant bearer Kimberly, and Princess Kristine, both members of the Mor row County Fair & Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo court. Kimberly is 13 and will enter Ione High School this fall as a freshman. Many hobbies keep Kim busy riding. volleyball, basketball, track and swimming. Kim has been in 4-H horse for five years and is secretary-treasurer for the Martingales 4-H Horse Club in Ione. She has been busy the past few months preparing for the many ac tivities of fair week. Kimberly rides an 18 year old quarterhorse. ‘P.J.’ and has been a welcome addition to the court. Stephanie Haguewood, 12 year old daughter of Kevin and Linda Haguewood of Ione, takes time from her busy schedule to ride as a pen nant bearer for the Morrow County Fair & Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo court. Besides horses, Stephanie’s hob bies include swimming, playing the piano and clarinet. She also enjoys basketball and volleyball and will be part of the lone Middle School teams this year. Stephanie has a younger brother, Dustin. Stephanie belongs to the Mar tingales 4-H Horse Club, the Wranglers Riding Club and is a third year member of the North Lex Livestock Club, where she will be taking a steer and a heifer to the fair this year. Stephanie rides and eight year old quarterhorse mare, ‘Crystal’ While Dawn Boor may be a ‘petite L-R: Jossie Evans, Dawn Boor, Casey Evans, Joe Doherty, Kimberly Bedortha and Stephanie Haguewood young lady’ —she is nothing but a ‘large asset’ to this years Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro rodeo court. As a veteran pennant bearer, 11 year old Dawn, daughter of Jim and Marie Boor of Ione, returns to the court with a good han dle of what representing her county is all about. Dawn is a member of the Mar tingales 4-H Horse Club, and the Two Trackers Horse Club. Besides her love for horses. Dawn enjoys Umatilla Electric Cooperative Association Wecare... Dawn’s parents, Jim and Marie, are once again the pennant bearer coordinators for the court. They take many hours to see that all the children are organized for parades, adding lights for night parades, and helping out whenever needed. Dawn has an older sister and four older brothers, and will be entering Ione Middle School this fall. She will be riding her 25 year old thoroughbred gelding, ‘Ivan’. Carrying flags is nothing new for Joe Doherty. 13 year old son of John and Doris Doherty of Pilot Rock. As a former pennant bearer for the Pendleton Round-Up. young Doher ty has taken a leave from the Round- Up court to bear the colors for Mor row County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo. Joe’s sister, Liz, is a princess on this years court. Joe’s hobbies include riding, foot ball. baseball and roping. This year Joe was an All-Star player on the Pilot Rock Little League baseball team. Joe has two older sisters, Shelley in Alaska and Princess Elizabeth at home. Joe will be riding a 12 year old gelding named ‘Sunny’. Jossie Evans, 13 year old daughter of Monte and Becky Evans of Hepp ner, loves ‘everything' about horses. As an accomplished rider, Jossie has won many honors such as: Cham pion Sr. Performance Horse, Grand Champion Mare and All-Around Jr. Showman. She says her favorite thing to do, though, is to ride with her Dad in the Wai owa mountains, where the family pastures their cattle. Jossie will enter Heppner Junior High this fall as an 8th grader. She is active in volleyball, basketball and track, and was 7th grade High Point Individual for her track team. She is quite busy this summer preparing for the fair, where she will participate as a member of the North Lex Livestock Club. Jossie’s Market Steer was Grand Champion at last years fair. Jossie is a member of 4-H Horse, North Lex Livestock Club, Wranglers Riding and the Lutheran Church. She will be riding her 15 year old registered quarterhorse gelding, “Barney". Ten year old Casey Evans, son of Monte and Becky Evans of Heppner is no stranger to horses, riding and helping out around the family ranch. As a pennant bearer for this year's Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Court, Casey adds a great deal of sparkle to the court. Casey is a first year member of 4-H Horse and the North Lex Livestock Club and enjoys horses, sports, running and swimming and was a member of the Major League. Little League. Casey has qualified for the past two years in the State Games of Oregon track meet in the sprints and the long jump. Casey has an older sister, Jossie. also a pennant bearer and will be riding his 14 year old quarterhorse gelding, ‘Roca-. Dance to J.T. & the Best Westerns Dancers will get caught up in the pioneer spirit at the street dance Saturday night. August 17, at the Morrow County Fairgrounds park ing lot. t For the second year in a row, you can dance to the music of J.T. Johnson and the Best Westerns from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
