You’ve heard the saying “ Mar riages are made in heaven, so is thunder and lightening.” My calen dar today refutes that with the say ing, “ Marriages are not made in heaven; they come in kits and you have to put them together.” The same may be said for our com munities and your Chamber of Com merce. We are continually trying to put all the parts together to create the image in our town that we wish to be known for. This means all entities working together: the city and coun ty; the Fair Board and rodeo com mittee; the St. Pat’s committee and other involved organizations; businesses, schools and parents. The list goes on and continual challenges from swim pool repair to fairgrounds expansion to housing and jobs keeps the “ kit” from being boring or too easy. All the parts do come together to make a whole. Volunteers continue to give their time as Heppner forges ahead toward more visitor space, housing, job possibilities, beautifica tion, com m unity events and economic development. Growth will happen. Increased calls to Heppner indicate more and more interest from people wishing to locate here. We need to plan.. do we want high tech businesses running from homes; do we want retired people; do we want young families or all of the above? Do we have a choice? It’s up to all of us to create an environment in our community where people and businesses wish to be. No chamber next week as it’s the fifth Tuesday of the month. Tues day, August 6, chamber will have a brief lunch at the Elks and depart on a Forest Service Tour at 12:30 p.m. The bus will return to Heppner by 6 p.m. Please contact the Chamber office if you plan to attend 676-5536.
