Joint churches hold Vacation
Bible school this week

churches Vacation Bible School held this week.
Sixty-eight children are registered at Bible school and have
donated 84 pounds of canned goods and paper products to
donate to the Neighborhood Center food baskets. The week’s
goal is 395 pounds.
Teachers are the Rev. Gerry Etchison, the Rev. Stan Hoob-
ing, Lea Calvert, Carley Drake, Ellen Rollis and Rhonda Majors.
Good turnout for fishing derby

Forty-eight area children par
ticipated in the Fishing Derby held
on June 9 at Willow Creek Dam.
Jarrod Clark of Heppner won the
prize for biggest bass and Emily
Bergstrom, also of Heppner snagg
ed the biggest bluegill. The wettest
fisherm an honors went to
Christopher Hagzlett.

The Heppner Lions club donated
prizes for the derby. Helping were

Ukiah; Doug Dougan, Ukiah; Greg
Lynch, Johanne Wood, Alan Scott
and Becky Nourse, all U.S. Forest

Lions club secretary-treasurer.
Annual Olden family picnic held

The annual Olden Family reunion
and picnic was held in The Dalles on
June 9, with many descendants of
Menzo and Mary Jane Olden in at
tendance. Menzo and Mary Jane
homesteaded south of lone in 1884.

Aquatic fitness
classes planned
Aquatic fitness classes in both lone
and Heppner have been scheduled to
begin July 9.
The classes will be held for six
weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 6 to 7 p.m.
Instructors are Cathy Halvorsen,
422-7107 and Nella Britt. 676-9659.
Pre-registration is required and

post office or from the instructor.

The stand opens this Friday and
will offer fireworks for sale through
July 3.
The stand will be located at its
normal location on Main St. next to
Spicer and Kuhn’s office.
Proceeds from sale o f the
fireworks go toward operation of the
CHEVROLET
Heppner Day Care Center, and for
worthwhile community projects
through the Lions Club.
The stand is scheduled to be open
on Friday, June 28 from 3:30 to 7:30
p.m .; Saturday and Sunday June 29
and 30 from 12 noon to 8 p.m.;
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
July 1, 2 and 3 from 3:30 to 7:30
p.m. and Thursday, July 4 from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m.
