Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April 24, 1991 - FIVE Holly Rebekahs to raffle oil painting Ione school observes National Library Week The Holly Rebekah Lodge in Lex ington is raffling off a 20” x 24” oil painting donated by Linda Burcham- Jackson from Greeley, Colorado. The painting is titled “ Oregon” and was donated to the Rebekahs in memory of Linda's mother, Dorothy Burcham, who was a Rebekah for many years until she passed away last September. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. and may be purchased at Sears or from Kathy Tellechea, Noble Grand of Holly Rebekah. The painting is on display at Sears. Proceeds will go towards a new roof for the I.O.O.F. hall in Lex ington. The hall is used for many community events. “ The roof is go ing to cost several thousand dollars and this is one of the ways to help us towards our goal of a new roof,” said Tellechea. Mildred Connor recuperating lone students show favorite characters Students and teachers at lone Elementary School dressed as their favorite storybook characters on Fri- day, April 19, to observe National Photo by Pam Minster Library Week. During a school assem bly each child shared something about his book and the character he depicted. Students and teachers said they en joyed the day and shared stories. Teachers said they felt it was a very successful way to inspire in terest in reading. Bill Buckendorf to direct Caldwell High School singers at lone Friday The 22 member Caldwell High School singers wil perform at the lone High School gym at 9 a m. on Friday April 26. Museum to host program by Oregon historian The award-winning group IS directed by Bill Buckendorf, Hepp ner High music teacher in the late 70’s. Terence U'Donnell, notea auuior of “ That Balance So Rare: The Story of Oregon” , will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Mor row County Museum. His program, called “ The Face of a Place,” will explore how the landscape of Oregon, like the face of a person, has been transformed by its history. The program is sponsored by the Morrow County Museum and has been made possible by the Oregon Council for the Humanities, an af filiate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. “ The Face of a Place” surveys the landscape of Oregon and the changes the topography of the state has HHS announces academic honors Academic honors have been an nounced for the third nine weeks of the 1990-91 school year at Heppner High School. A former research associate with the Oregon Historical Society, Terence O’Don nell has delighted audiences throughout the Northwest with his engaging and insightful presentations on our state’s past. In addition to his extensive published w ritings, O’Donnell is a member of the Portland Historic Landmarks Com mission and participated on the design team which won the interna tional competition for Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square.
