Oregon Wednesday, March 27, 1991 Sheriffs Report The Sheriff s office at the cour thouse in Heppner reports dispat ching the following business during the past week: March 12: Morrow County depu ty cited and released Ken Phipps, 40, Irrigon for Maintaining a Dog as a Public Nuisance; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area to check out a residence for a welfare check; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Condon ambulance to a residence. There was no transport; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon Mobile Court for a neighborhood problem. Problem was solved. March 13: Morrow County depu ty assisted Oregon State Police on 1-84 with a car going east bound in the west bound lanes; M orrow County deputy in vestigated a report of a cow that had been shot on Clarks Canyon Road. Investigations are continuing; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Heppner Fire depart ment to a residence for a propane tank on fire; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Wilson Trailer Court in Ir rigon for a traffic problem; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of an intoxicated driver; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of an intoxicated driver. Deputy was unable to locate driver; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Arlington ambulance to Blaylock Canyon Road. One female was transported to Mid Col umbia Medical Center in The Dalles with an unknown illness. March 14: M orrow County S h eriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to an accident scene on 1-84 mile post 166. One female was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital. Morrow Coun ty deputy assisted Oregon State Police with the accident scene; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Boardman fire and ambulance to Lamb-Weston Receiv ing Area for a structure fire. Four patients were transported to Board- man C linic. M orrow County deputies assisted Boardman Fire and Police departments with the scene; Morrow County deputy respond ed to Desert Farm Supply for a reported burglary. Items taken were unknown, investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a semi that was broke down blocking both lanes of traffic; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Lexington EMT’s and the Heppner ambulance to a residence in Lexington. One male was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital with an unknown illness; Morrow County Sheriffs office responded to the Boardman area for a report of a cow in the middle of Wilson Road. Deputy was unable to locate cow. M arch 15: Morrow County S h eriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to a business on Olson Road in Boardman for a male with an unknown illness. There was no transport; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Boardman fire depart ment to Lamb-Weston in Boardman for a spot check from the fire on Thursday. Everything was secure; Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman Police department with a Boardman resident who had a vehicle problem; Morrow County deputy made con tact with Ivan Dike of Irrigon who had received an unexplained phone bill. Investigation is ongoing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the lone area for a traffic pro blem. Investigations are continuing; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Condon ambulance and Condon fire department to a one vehicle rollover on hwy. 19, mile post 22. One female and five children were transported to the Gilliam Clinic. March 16: M orrow County S heriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to a one vehi cle rollover on 1-84, mile post 167. Two people were transported by private vehicle to the Boardman Shell w here the am bulance transported them to Good Shepherd Hospital with unknown injuries; Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman Police department with a domestic; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a traffic problem. Deputy was unable to locate vehicle; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a juvenile playing around an aban doned building; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a dog that had been shot. Investiga tions are continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a possible domestic problem. V i / , . Y * March 17: Morrow County depu ty arrested Stewart Arthur Maley, 32, Portland, for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants Maley was cited and released; Morrow County deputy respond ed to a residence in Irrigon for a family disturbance. Problem was resolved; Morrow County deputy respond ed to Gregg's Tavern in Irrigon, for a report of an attempted burglary. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Boardman fire depart ment to a field fire in Estegaard Estates in Boardman; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Arlington ambulance and fire department to a motor vehi cle accident on 1-84 mile post 129 with unknown injuries. Two people were transported to Mid-Columbia Hospital in The Dalles; Morrow County deputy respond ed to a residence on Washington St., Irrigon, for a report of an animal neglect. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Martin residence in Irrigon for a report of property damage. Amount of damage was undetermin ed, investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman police department in a family disturbance; Morrow County deputy received a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the Irrigon area. Deputy was unable to locate one; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to a residence on Columbia Ave, Boardm an. One female was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital with unknown injuries. March 18: Morrow County depu ty investigated a report of a theft at the Morrow County bus shop in Heppner. Amount of value was undeterm ined, investigation is continuing; M orrow C ounty deputy in vestigated a report of animal neglect in the Irrigon area. Call was unfounded; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a suspicious person. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to Irrigon Stone, in Irrigon for a report of a juvenile problem; Morrow County Sheriffs office assisted Fife Washington, police department with a welfare check on a subject in the Irrigon area; Morrow County Sheriff s office received a report of a motor vehicle accident on 1-84, mile post 168. Deputy responded to assist Oregon State Police. Boardman ambulance was dispatched and later cancelled. Call was unfounded. Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman Police Department with a report of a family disturbance. Call was unfounded. March 19: Morrow County depu ty responded to the Irrigon area for a report of an animal neglect. Call was unfounded; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the lone fire department to a ranch on Rhea Creek. Call was cancelled; Morrow County Sheriffs office responded to Irrigon for a report of found livestock. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a possible restraining order viola tion. There was no action taken; M orrow County deputy in vestigated a report of theft of engine parts from Debbie Barrett, Umatilla. Value exceeded $600. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Arlington ambulance to 1st Street in Arlington. One female with an unknown illness was transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center the The Dalles; Morrow County deputy respond ed to Rod's Market in Irrigon for a report of a suspicious person. March 20: Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Hepp ner Fire department to a residence one mile south of Heppner; Morrow County deputy respond ed to Irrigon for a report of a sub ject driving through a yard. No cita tions were issued at this time; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Arlington ambulance to the station. A patient with an il lness was transported to The Dalles. March 21: Morrow County depu ty responded to the Shell station in Boardman to assist with a vehicle problem; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of loud motorcycles. Problem was solved; Morrow County deputy took a report of telephonic harassment in the Lexington area. Investigations are continuing; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Irrigon area for a report of a family disturbance. Nicholas Dru Kauffman. 31, Irrigon was arrested for Assault IV/Domestic. Subject posted bail and was released. M arch 22: Morrow County deputies responded to a residence on Anderson Road to investigate a possible domestic in progress; Morrow County deputy arrested Jose Vielmas Carvajal, 31, Board man for Assault IV/Domestic. Car vajal was transported and lodged at Benton County Jail; Morrow County deputy respond ed tothe Shell station in Boardman to investigate a disturbance in the parking lot; Morrow County deputy arrested Steven Dennis Webb, 34, Pilot Rock, for Assault IV, two counts of Menacing; two counts of Pointing a Firearm at another person. Webb was transported and lodged; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to 1-84 mile post 152 west bound for a motor vehicle rollover with in juries. One female was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital with unknown injuries; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the lone Fire department to a fire at the lone High School track field. Deputy responded to in vestigate possible arson. Investiga tion is continuing. Damage to high- jump equipment was valued at $ 2 , 000 ; Morrow County deputy contacted a resident on Wilson Road regarding a suspicious vehicle; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Lexington area for a neighborhood problem. March 23: Morrow County depu ty received a report of vandalism from the Eastern Oregon Farms in Boardman. Amount of damage was unknown at press time, investigation is continuing; Morrow County deputy received a report of a break-in at Western Alfalfa Co. in Boardman. Damage and value was undetermined at press time. Investigation is continuing; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Heppner ambulance and fire department rescue units to a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 207, Buttercreek per request from Hermiston Police department for assistance. Both were cancelled when Hermsiton units advised them the situation was under control; Morrow County Sheriff s office dispatched the Arlington fire depart ment to a vehicle fire on 1-84. mile post 136; Morrow County deputy respond ed to the Boardman area to assist Boardman Police department with a family dispute. March 24; Morrow County depu ty responded to an Irrigon neighborhood to investigate a report of two suspicious vehicles. Problem was resolved; Morrow County deputy arrested Francisco Hernandez Cruz, 44, of Boardman for Driving Under the In fluence of Intoxicants. He was released on his own recognizance; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Mitchell ambulance to a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 74 at the Ochoco Summit. There was no transport; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a report of suspicious peo ple loitering at an Irrigon business. Problem was solved; Morrow County deputy respond ed to 8th St. W. Irrigon, for a report of an animal problem; Morrow County deputy respond ed to W Kunze Road, Boardman, to investigate two reports of assault. Cindy Meacham, 32, Boardman, and Juanita Montigue, 38, Board- man were each cited and released for Assault IV; Morrow County deputy cited and released James Turk, 42, Irrigon, for Maintaining a Dog as a Public Nuisance. March 25: Morrow County depu ty responded to 1-84, mile post 170, for a report of a motor vehicle acci dent. Boardman ambulance was dispatched to the scene. There were no injuries. John I Wood, 24, Boise, Id. was cited for Careless Driving; Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman Police department in a report of an assault in Boardman; Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to a business in Boardman. Person refused transport; Morrow County deputy assisted the Boardman police with a report of a domestic assault in Boardman. During the week of March 18-25, Morrow County deputies assisted one disabled motorist. Meeting for horse club members There will be a meeting Saturday, March 30, 6:30 p.m. at the Lex ington School District office for all horse club members to plan the spring competitive trail ride and view a video on the Dad Potter achievement movements. The video will be shown during a pot luck din ner. Bring a main dish, salad or dessert. Drinks, plates and utensils will be provided. All clubs are urg ed to attend as the competitive trail ride will be open to everyone. Parents are encouraged to attend the trail ride. Historical Society plans three-day get away The annual Morrow County Historical Society weekend getaway this year is a three-day trip to the historical Jacksonville-Medford area with entertaining stops along the way. Planned for May 3, 4 and 5, the tour will leave Heppner at 9 a.m. on Friday May 3. Planned stops include the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, the Shriner’s Iris Garden near Salem and the Wolf Creek Tavern in Medford. After visiting Jacksonville Satur- day, travelers will take the scenic Crater Lake route to Bend where they will be treated to surprise enter tainment Saturday night. After spen ding Saturday night in Bend, Sun day's sightseeing includes the High Desert Museum and Peterson’s Rock Gardens. Lunch will be at the Shaniko Hotel. Anyone interested in accompany ing the tour should contact Ruth McCabe or Delpha Jones as soon as possible for motel reservations. Deadline is April 19. Oregon trees subject of Garden Club Class reunion meeting set An organizational meeting tor the Heppner High School classes of 1960, ‘61 and ‘62 class reunion will be held Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Kate’s Pizza. For m ore inform ation call Marlene Gray, 676-5541. “ Trees to Know in Oregon” was the subject for discussion at the lone Garden Club meeting March 13 at the home of Virginia Peck with Joyce Buchanan acting as co hostess. “ Oregon is known as the forest state and leads all 50 states in the produc tion of lumber,” stated Jean Nelson, program leader. For many years trees were thought of in relation to their commercial value but now conservation of our water, wildlife and clean air is receiving more em phasis. Since much recreation time is spent in forests the average per son needs to know more about the different trees to enjoy them. For in stance, the Douglas fir (pseudotsuga menziesii) is the State tree and grows in 35 out of the 36 counties in the state. How does one know this tree? Look for special features such as the appearance of the cones, length, number and growth pattern of the needles, size of tree, bark configura tion, area in which it grows and its shape Most trees fall into the class of the needleleafs (conifers), which are softwoods, hardwoods, or the broadleaf, which are mostly deciduous. Special guest for the day was Virginia Grogan. Blue Mountain District #10 from Milton-Freewater. Grogan reminded members about the district meeting to be held at Her miston on April 19. Pat Pettyjohn, junior chairman, reported that the fifth grade lone elementary class made 13 posters on the subject “ Protect our Butterfly” for the conservation contest. Leila Palmer, therapy chairman, announced that the club would be placing daffodils in the rooms of Pioneer Nursing Home patients on Thursday, March 14 and serve cake and visit with the people at that time. Helen Martin will play songs for them. Plans for the annual plant sale to be held April 23 at the lone Legion Hall were announced by the chair man Delta Huber. This is a means of sharing plants in members’ gardens.
