Those installed were: NG Kathy Tellechea, V.G. Annetta Padberg, secretary Delpha Jones and treasurer Virginia Peck. Appointed officers were: Leila Palmer, chaplain, RSNG Leulla Taylor, LSNG Geri Martin, Warden Fran Peck, Conductor Susan Poiter, ISG Hilda Yocom, OSG Dorothy Jackson, LSVG Holly Mosteller, LSVG Joyce Buchanan, R.SC Frances Murty and trustees one year-Luella Taylor; two year Joyce REDWOOD DECKING Buchanan and three-year, Leila Palmer. In the final seconds of the game Jason Halvorsen connected on three foul shots to put lone in a comfortable position. Halvorsen was the leading scorer with 10 points, but he had some big help from his fellow team mates. lone traveled to Helix on January 19 and suffered an upsetting loss 23-41. Coach Robinson commented “ the true team wasn’t there.” Leading scorers were Jason Halvorsen with seven followed by Gregg Holtz with six and Rodney Ehrmantraut with four points. January 24 lone was handed another defeat from the Heppner Ponies 24-43. Coach Robinson said he felt the team played well but they just couldn't keep up with the Hepp ner scoring. High scorer was Jason Halvorsen with 14 points. They beat Pilot Rock’s JV team 62-29, Friday night and lost to Umatilla’s JV boys team, 53-47 the next night. Scott Coe got Heppner started off quick against Pilot Rock, scoring the first five points of the game as the Mustangs ran their way to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Coe led Heppner with 16 points and Len Brittner added 14 for the Mustangs. Against Umatilla, Heppner started out slow and never really recovered. Heppner. down 29-20 at halftime, put on a rally at the start of the third quarter, outscoring Umatilla, 12 to two, to begin the second half. Umatilla fought back and even swit ched free throw shooters to ice the game on free throws. Scott Coe again led Heppner with 16 points and Len Brittner added 12. The Fillies won 29-14. In the first half, the teams were evenly matched defensively. Neither team scored much in the first quarter and it ended in a tie 4-4. In the se cond quarter both teams played man- to-man and neither team was able to sink many shots. By Anne Morter The lone girls’ JV team tallied another win last weekend, downing the Culver Bulldogs 39-29. The Lady Cards encountered a sticky man-to-man full court press but eventually managed to maneuver through it and gain the win. The JV girls have an 8-2 season record with just two games remaining. Amy Pointer and Heidi Nelson shared scoring honors with 11 points each. The Lady Cards out rebound ed Culver 43-41 with Heidi Nelson grabbing 11 rebounds and Amy Pointer adding nine. Crystal Minster nabbed five steals to pace the team. The Cards shot 17 of 49 from the floor for 35 percent while the Bulldogs managed just 12 of 65 for 18 percent. Both teams shot poorly from the free throw line. lone hit five of 19 for 26 percent and Culver shot five of 27 for 18 percent. Coach Tom Bedortha noted that the girls had trouble getting the ball inbounds against the scrappy Culver squad but it was business as usual when they did. He commended Amy Pointer and Heidi Nelson on their ef forts. Both girls shot 50 percent from the field and “ cleaned up on the boards.” The JV team will end its season next weekend, playing Condon on Friday and Cascade Locks on Saturday. JV Fillies take two wins Lady Cards defeat Culver over weekend Lunch Provided All Saints Episcopal Parish Hall ped in four points and had six steals. The team work effort and the sup port from the bench was helpful. The final score was 24-43. On January 26 lone played Helix again and this time was out for revenge after losing their first match, lone got what they went after and won 33-26. The game was fairly close at halftime, lone 15, Helix 11 but lone pulled father ahead inthe third and fourth quarters with the final score 33-26. Rodney Ehrmantraut had his best game so far in the season. Ehrman- traut had seven points, 10 rebounds and one steal. Jason Halvorsen lead the scoring attack with 15 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. lone Middle School now has a record of 5-3. The IMS boys “ B” team has a record of 4-4 with losses to Echo, Helix twice and Heppner. They have beaten Arlington, Echo, Fossil and Condon. They stole the ball and drove for a layup and slowly moved ahead until they led at the end of the quarter, 24-11. In the fourth quarter the Fillies held their lead and kept Pilot Rock from scoring to win the game. Sophomore Jennie Ashbeck led the Filly attack with eight points. Jodi Johnston chipped in seven. Freshman Gretchen Berretta helped out by pulling down eight rebounds. Saturday the Fillies traveled to Umatilla to play in what turned out to be one of their best games. The Fillies won 51-39 Umatilla lead in the first half, but not by much as the Fillies managed to hang in there to stay within two points in the first quarter. At the end of the second quarter the Fillies were still behind 15-21. In the third quarter the Fillies once again made a comeback. Working as a team the Fillies caught up and streaked past Umatilla to take the lead 36-29 The fourth quarter the Fillies never cooled off and went on to the win 51-39. Ruth Norton was high scorer with 12 points. She had a total of 13 re bounds, 11 offensive, and stole the ball five times Sara Greenup scored eight points and Donita Sharp and Chrissy Shultz each chipped in six. Jennie Ashbeck helped out on the hoards grabbing eight. “ They played well as a team and everyone con tributed to the win.” stated coach Lana Orr The JV’s last game of the season will be Fri. Feb. 8 against Weston-McEwen at 3 p.m. By Anne Morter The lone Lady Cardinals chalked up a win on the road last weekend, defeating C ulver 49-35. The Bulldogs gave the Cards a scare in the first half, but lone got their fast break moving and outscored their opponents. 18-2, in the third quarter to break the game open. The Lady Cards’ league record now stands at 5-2 with their season mark at 11-5. I Brandi Ball took over the scoring chores, pouring in a game-high 17 points. Nancy Morter added 12 points. Cardinal scoring leader, Kari Morgan, sat out the game with a minor knee injury. The Cards edg ed the Bulldogs, 30-27, in the re bounding department with Nancy Morter pulling down 10 boards and Wendy Anderson adding seven. Nancy Morter dished out five of the team’s 10 assists and Danielle Stefani nabbed seven of the team’s 15 steals. The Cards had a good night shooting from the floor, hitting 21 of 50 for 42 percent. Culver was 14 of 51 for 27 percent. Both teams shot 50 percent from the free throw line. The Cards hit six of 12 and the Bulldogs made five of 10. Coach Dana Heideman said he was pleased with the win. “ We ex ecuted on offense really well,” he said. The Cardinals finish out the regular season next week playing Condon in lone on Friday and travel ing to Cascade Locks on Saturday. The Condon game is “ very crucial” for the Lady Cards as it will likely determine first place in the division. The team entering the district tour nament in first place gets two chances to qualify for state while the second place team is in a single elimination situation.
