Engagements Padberg to chair U G LY bartender contest Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August 22, 1990 - FIVE MORROW COUNTY PRO RODEO COMMITTEE wishes > to thank these official sponsors: Connie Padberg has offered to chair the 1990 Coors U.G.L.Y. Bartender Contest in Heppner for the Oregon Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Padberg will coor dinate fund-raising events for the contest in Heppner. U.G.L.Y. stands for Understan ding, Generous, Lovable You. Ms. Padberg accepted the appoint ment out of her desire to help fight multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease of the central nervous system that at tacks adults between the ages of 20 and 40. Symptoms vary from blur red vision to slurred speech to com plete paralysis. There are over 2900 people with MS in the Oregon chapter area alone. The cause is unknown and there is no cure yet. Ms. Padberg stated that 60 percent of the money raised in the contest will help fund services for Orego nians with MS, and 40 percent will go for research on the disease. The Ugly Bartender Contest is sponsored by Coors Beer and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and will run in Heppner from August 20 to September 16. B all — Barrow Ms. Carol A. Barrow and Mr. and Mrs. Austin Barrow, announce the engagement of their daughter and granddaughter, Denise Marie Barrow, of Canby, to Jeffrey Lewis Ball of lone. Both Denise and Jeffrey are cur rently living in Klamath Falls. Jeffrey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Boor of lone. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Pettyjohn of Heppner, and Mrs. Anna Ball of lone. Jeffrey is a 1985 lone High School graduate. He is a student at Oregon Institute of Technology and will obtain a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering in December 1990. Denise is a 1987 North Clackamas Christian School graduate. She graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in December of 1989 with an associate degree in legal office systems technology-paralegal. She is currently working for JELD-WEN. Inc., Klamath Falls, as a paralegal in the legal department. The couple plans an October 6, 1990 wedding at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Canby. Williams of Riggins, Idaho, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Tammie, to Jack Estberg, both of La Grande. The bride-elect attends Eastern Oregon State College, La Grande. Estberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven L. Estberg of Pendleton is a 1986 ^graduate of Heppner High School and also attends Eastern Oregon State College. The couple will be married Sept. 1, 1990 at Salmon River Community Church, Riggins, Idaho. N azarene, C hristian Life Center churches plan cam pout The Heppner Church of the Nazarene and the Heppner Christian Life Center will be having a combin ed “ campout” at Cutsforth Park beginning Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26. Sunday school will be held Satur day evening around the campfire and the worship service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday. Pastor Larry Ben jamin will bring the morning message and Pastor Tim Van Cleave will lead the music. There will be a potluck following the morning wor ship service. Everyone is invited to come and spend the whole weekend or come up for whatever time you are able to. There will not be any services held at either the Nazarene church building or the Christian Life Center church building this Sunday in Heppner. Hardman bingo night Aug. 25 The Hardman Community Center spaghetti and bingo night will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Hard man Center. Dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. with bingo at 8 p.m. Prices are: adults $4.; seniors $3.50; and children $2.50. Dinner includes spaghetti, garlic bread, beverage, salad and desert. Bingo is 25 cents a card. Prizes in clude a microwave and many more.
